SSC
These exams are held to recruit officers in various government
verticals and ministries, which are not covered by UPSC.
SSC covers most of the group B services, group C services and other
posts in the ministries.
It is similar to the Civil Services Exam of UPSC, the exam which covers
major posts is the Combined Graduate Level Exam.
This exam has consolidated all the individual exams that were
conducted by SSC before 2008.
It conducts many examinations among which the Combined Graduate
Level Examination is the most sought after.
SSC
UPSC offers less than 5,000 seats in all the examinations conducted
Are these seats enough to cater to the masses?
As the private sector in the country does not fill the gap between
supply and demand of jobs in the country, such exams become very
important for a large section of students.
Thus, SSC becomes immensely important to offer stable jobs to a
large number of candidates.
Close to 30,000 Central Government jobs are provided each year.
It also includes positions like CSS cadre which is a group B service
below administrative officers in the ministries.
