A little argument
There has been alot
written and discussed as
to wether The Beatles
were legends of the
music industry or just a
pop band who were in
the right place at the
right time. This essay
will attempt to show that
due to numerous
reasons, The Beatles
should be regarded as
music legends...
consisted of:
John Lennon - Rhythm
Guitar
George Harrison - Lead
Guitar
Their history
McCartney met Lennon at a
garden fete in the late 1950s, and
joined his band, The Quarrymen,
into which McCartney also
recruited Harrison, his 15 year old
school friend.
The band briefly split before
regrouping. After going through
several changes in name and band
members, it finally became the
Beatles under the EMI's Parlophone
label. The Beatles' first full-length
album, Please Please Me, was
recorded within twelve consecutive
hours. In 1964 they held the top
five places on Billboard's Top Pop
Singles Chart, a feat which has
never been repeated.
The Legend
It's hard to convey the scope of
the Beatles' achievements in a
mere paragraph or two. They
synthesized all that was good
about early rock & roll, and
changed it into something original.
In 1965, Queen Elizabeth II
appointed the four Beatles
Members of the Order of th British
Empire (MBE).
They have been awarded 6
Diamond albums, as well as 24
Multi-Platinum albums, 39
Platinum albums and 45 Gold
albums in the United States, while
in the UK they have 4 MultiPlatinum albums, 4 Platinum
albums, 8 Gold albums and 1
Silver album.
Beatles break-up
The break-up of The Beatles,
has become almost as much of a
legend as the band itself or the
music they created while together.
The Beatles were active from their
formation in 1960 to the
disintegration of the group in
1970. There were numerous
causes for the Beatles' break-up. It
was not a single event but a long
transition, including the cessation
of touring in 1966, and the death
of their manager, Brian Epstein, in
1967, meaning the Beatles were
personally involved in financial
and legal conflicts.
