PART I
DISCUSSION ABOUT RESEARCH
PAPER

A cold-start method and analysis

for internal
combustion engines particularly
using a renewable fuel
Yiding Cao and Deqi Chen
International Journal of Energy Research
Volume 35, March - 2011

INTRODUCTION
Alternative fuels such as ethanol and
methanol are considered to be
renewable fuels
However, an internal combustion
engine operating on ethanol or
methanol could encounter cold-start
problems, due to a very
small cetane number, large latent
heat, and
high ignition temperature .

A NEW COLDSTART/WARM-UP
METHOD

The success of a cold start are

depends on the charge temperature
and ignition delay.
To increase the charge temperature,
a novel cold-start method is
introduced, which may cold start
even pure ethanol or methanol
without the need for preheating and
distillation

PART II
ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH PAPER

1. IMPACT FACTOR
Impact factor is generally used for journals.
Above discussed research paper is taken from
International Journal Of Energy
Research.
According to Google scholar data total
number of citation given by other journals
from this journal in year 2011 & 2012 are 47.
A = 47

and number of research paper cited

by other journal in year 2013 is 17 .
B = 17
So, impact factor of International
Journal Of Energy Research for
year 2013 is
= 47/17 = 2.764

2.

H FACTOR

H factor is generally defined for

author or researcher.
According to Google scholar data Mr.
Yiding Cao has presented three
research paper up to 2013 and his
one research paper get one
citation.
So H FACTOR for Mr. Yiding Cao is
1.

3. CRITICAL REVIEW
INTRODUCTION
In above discussed research paper
author have clearly define the
research problem of cold start in
renewable fuel engine and introduce
the variable which are affecting the
problem.
They also provide sufficient
literature review.

METHEDOLOGY
Generally cold start problem can be
solved by physical modification only
and author selected a cheap method
of modification.
They does not include the data of
instrument which are used for
measuring the pressure and
temperature.
They does not include the starting
power requirement in modified setup.

RESULTS
They have presented their findings clearly.
They have also given reference of other
method and proven their method superior.
DISCUSSION
They have not considered any limit for their
research.
Their research suggest further direction of
research because they assume that some of
the charge after compression is present

Inside the cylinder but actual case

may be
different.
They have emphasized on practical
approach of research paper

4. STRENGTH OF RESEARCH
PAPER
Above discussed research paper
clearly identify the problem of cold
start and factor affecting it.
They have proven superiority of their
method by providing table of inlet
temperature and final temperature.

5. RESEARCH GAP
Authors have used completely
mechanical system for problem
solving.
But now a days due to availability of
electronic control unit inside the car
fuel heater and temperature sensors
are used to measure the inlet
temperature and heating a fuel up to
specific temperature in very short
time.

6.

WHAT CAN BE FURTHER

RESEARCHED

Authors have made a assumption that

during first compression some of the
charge is present inside the cylinder.
But in actual case condition may different.
So, one can make a research that after
compression stroke how much amount of
charge remain outside the pre chamber
and what are the factors affecting it.

PART III
OTHER THEORIES

1. PROBLEM STATEMENT
IDENTIFICATION
STEPS
1. Since a research problem is usually
something you have some knowledge of,
that subject is often a good starting point .
2. Now you have to talk with your teacher or
counselor about your research problem so
you may find brief idea about your problem.
3. Narrowing or clarifying your research
problem.

4. Find the literature available for your

research problem and be clear
about the research gap.
5. Now again narrowing your problem
statement.

2. VALIDATION OF RESEARCH
PAPER
Validation is the measure of how the
theoretical studies correlate with the
practical problem and other
theoretical approach.

1. Construct Validity Test

. This test refers to the measure to
operationalization of theoretical
approach.

2. Convergent Validity Test

. This test refers to degree which
theoretical approach is used to
derive another theory.

3. Content Validity Test

. During practical, researcher take a
reading with different inlet value.
. Content validity test refers to
measure that this inlet value contain
behavior of whole group or not.
