Film and Television Institute of India

Made By: Anuja Shringi and Dipty Kuma

Prabhat Film Company was

found in 1929 in Kolhapur by
director V Shantaram, V G Damle, K
R Dhaiber, S Fatelal and S B
Kulkarni.
It moved to Pune in 1933 where
their own studio was established. A
total of 45 films in Marathi and
Hindi have been made over the
span of 27 years.
The institute was established in
1960 and is today considered as
one of the best and oldest film
institute
in
the
country.
Its
television wing was built in new
Delhi before, but it shifted back to
Pune in 1974.

The institute was designed for

aspiring
filmmakers
and
introduced them with the latest
technological developments in
the industry.
It has helped bring about a
technological
and
aesthetic
breakthrough in Indian cinema.
The early graduates of FTII
started to make films that were
far more original and reflected
changes taking place in Indian
society
rather
than
being
influenced
by
the
popular
mainstream cinema of the time.

The syllabus and the courses of studies were drawn up under the advice of
Remy Tessonneau, Director of the Paris Institute des Hautes Etudes
Cinematographiques (IDHEC) who paid a visit to Poona in March, 1961 and
prepared a draft outline for teaching in five courses , viz.
Screen-play
Writing-cum-Direction
Motion Picture Photography
Sound Recording
Editing
Later on they added courses like Acting, Animation and Art Direction.
Also, a radio channel by the name of Radio FTIIis owned and managed by
Film and Television Institute of India. Radio FTII broadcasts programs based on
social awareness, youth, hygiene and health along with some talk shows of
social workers. It is aired onFM90.4. This radio station can be heard in the
city ofPuneonly.

It has been set up by Chacha Nehru with a vision. That vision is to create our own individualistic cinema. And

in the last five decades we have seen that it has brought Indian cinema on the map of universal cinema.

Films made by the students have

enjoyed excellent receptions in film
festivals of India and abroad and
have gone to win National and
International awards.
