INTRODUCTION
Prices of energy have been increasing exponentially

worldwide
Utilisation of solar energy for cooling purpose
Cutting down the energy costs
Preserving our environment

REFRIGERATION
Refrigeration is a process in which work is done to

move heat from one location to another.

traditionally driven by mechanical work , but can also be

driven by heat, magnetism, electronics, laser, or other

means.

SOLAR POWERED REFRIGERATION

a refrigerator which runs on energy directly provided by

sun, and may include photovoltaic or solar thermal energy.

most commonly used in the developing world to help

mitigate poverty and climate change.

HISTORY
In 1878, at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, Augustin

Mouchot displayed Mouchots engine

Solar fridges were introduced in the developing world to

cut down on the use of kerosene or gas powered coolers

Stop the use of fuel which is costly and are responsible

for the production of large amounts of CO2

TYPES OF SOLAR REFRIGERATION

Solar Thermal Systems

Organic Rankine Cycle

Photo Voltaic System

Solar Thermal Systems:

Vapour absorption refrigeration
Vapour jet refrigeration

Organic Rankine Cycle:

Vapour compression refrigeration

Photo Voltaic System:

Thermo electric refrigeration

THERMO-ELECTRIC COOLING
EFFECTS RESPONSIBLE FOR THERMOELECTRIC
COOLING :
Seebeck Effect - Thomas Seebeck
Peltier Effect - Jean Peltier
Thomson Effect - William Thomson

PELTIER EFFECT IN SEMICONDUCTORS

The Peltier effect is a temperature difference created by

applying a voltage between two electrodes connected to a

sample of semiconductor material.
2 types of processes:
N-type semiconductor
P-type semiconductor

MODE OF HEAT TRANSFER:

Entire Assembly of Semiconductors

PRINCIPLE OF PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL

These are semiconductor devices that convert

sunlight into direct current electricity.
