Comprehension
The readers can be able to understand the english
text properly
The readers can be able to decode english text by its
structure and vocabulary
The readers can be able to make connections
between what they read and what they already know
The readers can be able to think deeply about what
they have read
One big part of comprehension is having a sufficient
vocabulary, or knowing the meanings of enough
words.

What is Reading
Comprehension ?
Reading comprehension is defined
as the level of understanding of a
text/message. This understanding
comes from the interaction between
the words that are written and how
they trigger knowledge outside the
text/message. Proficient reading
depends on the ability to recognize
words quickly and effortlessly

I'm not sure what the most important


parts of the book were.
I couldn't really create an image in my
head of what was going on.
It takes me so long to read something.
It's hard to follow along with
everything going on.

waterthatisusedfordumpingsewageandhazardous waste.Most
developingcountriescannotaffordwatertreatmentfacilities.Approximately
80%ofinfectiousdiseasesintheworldarecausedbycontaminatedwater.

Airpollutionisagrowingproblemthroughouttheworld.Indoorair
pollutionisoneoftheleadingcausesoflungcancer.Familiesin
developingcountriesuseopenstovesforcookingandheatingtheirhomes.
Thesehomesdonothaveproperventilation.Thesmoke,whichisfullof
chemicalsandcarcinogens,getstrappedinsidewherefamilieseatand
sleep.Outdoorpollutionalsocausesdiseaseandillness,especially
inindustrialcitiessuchasBeijing,China,wherecanceristheleading
causeofdeath.Chinareliesheavilyoncoal,whichisconsideredthe
dirtiestsourceofenergy.
AccordingtotheEuropeanUnion,only1%ofurbandwellersin
Chinabreathecleanaironanaverageday.Neighbouringcountries
includingJapanandKoreareceivemuchofChina'spollutionintheform
ofacid rain.Thispollutionresultsmainlyfromthecoalpowered
factories,whichproduceinexpensivegoodsforNorthAmericanand
Europeanconsumers.Outdoorairpollutionisalsoaconcerninmany
wealthycountries.ThosewholiveandworkinurbancentressuchasLos
AngelesorTorontoexperiencemanywarmdaysbeneathalayerofsmog.
