MISTAKEN IDENTITY

Creating a Positive ID

Heb.11:23-27
By faith Moses parents hid him for three months
after he was born, because they saw he was no
ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the
kings edict. By faith Moses, when he had
grown up, refused to be known as the son of
Pharaohs daughter. He chose to be mistreated
along with the people of God rather than to enjoy
the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded
disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value
than the treasures of Egypt, because he was
looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left

Whats your Egypt? Destiny gives you the ability to
persevere. You will be tempted to quit..

The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord,

saying: Arise and go down to the potters house,
and there I will cause you to hear My words. Then
I went down to the potters house, and there he
was, making something at the wheel. And the
vessel that he made of clay was marred in the
hand of the potter; so he made it again into
another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to
make. Jer.18:1-4

We saw Moses in his struggle for

IDENTITY but even though he
matured and grew up, he embraced
his responsibility, defined his
priorities, and determined his destiny

INSECURITY

Listen to this conversation he had with God in Exodus 3

and 4
The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my
people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of
their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their
suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the
hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that
land And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me,
and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing
them. So now, go. I am sending you

But Moses said to God, Who am I

that I should go to Pharaoh and bring
the Israelites out of Egypt?
And God said, I will be with you.

Moses said to the Lord, Pardon your servant,

Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in
the past nor since you have spoken to your
servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.
The Lord said to him, Who gave human
beings their mouths... Is it not I, the Lord? Now
go; I will help you speak and will teach you
what to say.

But Moses said, Pardon your

servant, Lord. Please send
someone else.
Identity is about knowing who
YOU are, security is knowing who
God is and the ability to trust
Him as He works in your life.

This is INSECURITY which by definition is

not confident or sure, not highly stable
or well-adjusted.
3 Main Sources of Insecurity:
1.REJECTION
2.CRITICISM
3.COMPARISON

We have an enemy, the devil, who begins

his attack on our confidence whenever
and wherever he can find an opening.
Especially during the vulnerable years of
our childhood... the devil initiates his
ultimate goal of the total destruction of
that person. (Joyce Meyer)

3 Things You Must Do

1. Change My Thinking
Dont copy the behavior and customs of
this world, but be a new and different
person with a fresh newness in all you
do and think. Then you will learn from
your own experience how his ways will
really satisfy you. Ro.12:2

When I look up into the night skies and see the

work of your fingersthe moon and the stars
you have made I cannot understand how you
can bother with mere puny man, to pay any
attention to him! And yet you have made him
only a little lower than the angels and placed a
crown of glory and honor upon his head. Ps. 8:35
Let that go to your head!

2.Embrace My Uniqueness
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and
knit them together in my mothers womb. Thank you for
making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to
think about. Your workmanship is marvelousand how
well I know it. You were there while I was being formed
in utter seclusion! You saw me before I was born and
scheduled each day of my life before I began to
breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!
Ps.139:13-16

Trust My Creator
And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay and you
are the Potter. We are all formed by your hand. Isa.64:8
God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in
them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So
we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face
him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this
world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all
fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows
that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
