REASONS FOR FAILURE

ILL thought provisions:

1.Unemployment allowance system

2. Who wants to work if money can come without it as well?
Extremely Inefficient Implementation:
There were constant delays in payments even for months due to late
measurement of work.
Inadequate administrative machinery:
1.Lack of administrative and technical power.
2. dependency upon the local self government
3. role of villagers is very high in theoraical terms but minimal in
practical terms
4. High levels of corruption
Unfulfilled objectives:
The scheme was designed for an overall rural development but ended up
with only some more roads and ponds.
Lack of social audit

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY OF NREGA

The Good:

The best part of this is it guarantees employment to millions of

rural people across the nation. The scheme has achieved its main goalsdecreasing the unemployment rate in rural India and increase the consumption
power of many in the villages.

The Bad:

Local supervisors are making money by putting fake

attendance of an employee and then taking money from that person, as
nowadays money is directly transferred to their bank accounts. There is
corruption at every level of management.

The Ugly:This scheme is making most of the people lazy as the government
is paying lot of money for the work that is not monitored. It is reducing the
productivity of the country on a whole. We are taking MGNREGA as a
charity. Jobs are allotted only with vision of providing employment, value
making jobs are not selected, makes this work unproductive. .

FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE

STANDING COMMITTEE ON MGNREGA:
Achievements:
1.Ensuring livelihood
2. Ensuring participation of people
3. Increasing the wage rate in rural areas and strengthening the rural
economy through the creation of infrastructure assets
4.Facilitating sustainable development
5. Strengthening PRIs by involving them in the planning and monitoring
of the scheme

Challenges:
1.Fabrication of job cards
2.Delay in payment of wages
3.Large number of incomplete works
4.Other key challenges

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Regulation of job cards

CONCLUSION:
It was an extremely promising scheme which was
implemented by us in the worst way possible. I
said us because the people who were in-charge of
delivering their duties properly, were from amongst us
only, didnt do their duties. The landlord, the sarpanch,
the contractor, the bureaucrat and everyone who could
have contributed his/her part in making this scheme a
success, but didn't, came from no where else, but amongst
us.
