Challenges of Road Transport

Some findings of recent Study on Freight Transport

Logistics
general learnings are that the road transportation sector
holds the lowest productivity figures for persons
employed
The road transportation holds the smallest enterprises
in general. Is this a sustainable business model for the
future?
Innovation uptake relatively low
40% of road transports are performed with empty runs.
Driver shortage is expected to grow in the coming years;
ageing society and more complex operations.

Social dumping or Protectionism?

Social dumping or services offered at lower costs than

competitors and performed in accordance with legal rules
and regulations ?
Fair competition or legal competition ?? Does increased
liberalization by definition mean lower social and safety
standards? Or can increased liberalization actually lead to
efficiency improvements, higher standards and economic
growth for EU?
