Introduction
Poverty
Causes of Poverty
Inadequate Education
Illiteracy and lack of education are common in poor
countries.
Governments of developing countries often cannot
afford to provide for good public schools, especially in
rural areas.
Poor people also often forego schooling in order to
concentrate on making a minimal living.
Without education, most people cannot
find income-generating work.
Inadequate Employment
developing countries tend to have few employment
opportunities
When people do not have work, they do not make any
money; thus, high unemployment leads to high levels
of poverty.
Environmental Degradation
deterioration of the natural environment, including the
atmosphere, bodies of water, soil, and forests
led to shortages of food, clean water, materials for
shelter, and other essential resources.
Education
Effective programs
For adults, there are food for work programs
the adults are paid with food to build schools,
dig wells, make roads, and so on. This both
nourishes them and builds infrastructure to end
the poverty.
For children, there are food for education
programs
the children are provided with food when they
attend school. Their education will help them to
escape from hunger and global poverty.
