INDUSTRY
PROFILE
The automotive industry designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells
motor vehicles, and is one of the worlds most important economic sectors by
revenue. The first practical automobile with a petrol engine was built by karl
Benz in 1885 in Mannheim, Germany .
Automotive industry in India
India automobile sector can be categorized into 4 segments , these include
2wheelers,passenger vehicles,commericial vehicles and tractors.
Indian automobile manufactures over 13 million vehicles and exports about 1.5
million every year.
Indias passenger car and commercial vehicle manufacturing industry is the 6 th
largest in the world, with an annual production of more than 3.9 million units in
2011.
It provides direct and indirect employment to over 13 million people.

DEPARTMENTS OF BOSCH

FINANCE DEPARTMENT
The CFA department looks after the controlling, finance & accounting for
Bangalore plant (BanP) & Nagnathapura plant (NhP).
CFA comprises of 7 departmentsCFA1,CFA2,CFA3,CFA4,CFA5,CFA6,CFA7.
IFRS_ is used to show the statements of the financial position , profit &
loss account , changes in equity, cash flow statement and accounting
policies.
AUDITORS- M/s. Price Waterhouse &Co. , Chartered Accountants.
BANKERS- State Bank Of India, Canara Bank, Citi Bank and Deutsche
Bank.
Turn over Rs.7929.5 cr , Rs.6587 million , ROI-Rs.724.57 million.

Marketing department
The marketing department is headed by the sales and automotive
aftermarket division (SAA) and sales original equipment(SOE).
Status in market
Totally there are 13 departments and 110 employees
Advertisement is promoted to power tools and security systems and not for
automobile parts and home appliances.
Separate costing department is assigned to fix the prices of the products.
Distribution channels include distributors, wholesalers , retailers and
agents.
Segmentation in all 4 metro cities.
Major customers of bosch
Hero honda, maruti suzuki,honda , hindustan motors , mahindra , bajaj ,
kirloskar , ashok leyland , hyundai , ford , kinetic , tata , eicher , general
electric.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
The products manufacturing Divisions at Bangalore plant are as follows
MFP- manufactures P ,A,PE ,Feed Pumps, etc( Single to 12 cylinders )
MFD- manufactures different types of Delivery valve
MFE- manufactures different types Elements
MFR- manufactures common rail Pumps
MFV- manufactures VE Distributor pump
MFF- manufactures PF-33,45 & other pumps ( Mono Block )
The inventory comprises of
Semi Finished & finished goods/Products/Components, etc
Work in progress
Raw materials & Materials such as oils, coolants ,iron rods , steel sheets etc.
The Production System is based on Toyota Production System.
There are 2500 SPMs . The Goa plant is famous for packaging technology.

Production Process

As per BPS Principles & Elements Inventory is maintained i.e.


from min 3 days to max 45 days to meet the requirement of
manufacturing departments.
The raw materials are purchased from various steel, iron and
heavy metal industries as per the requirement.
The tools and equipments used for the manufacturing the goods
and automotive spare parts are stored in hardware rooms and
each tools, coils, equipments bolts and nuts have standard code
and are monitored by electronic devices to check the availability.
Most of the machines are automated and few of them have to be
operated manually. There is Special Purpose Machines top
manufacture the spare parts only for Bosch products. Each
machine has specific code.
The product or the spare parts are designed or drawn in drawing
room then the dimensions and measurements are taken the steel
or iron are melted and cutted by fine blade machines then it is
brought to required shape as per the product design.
The molded parts are given heat treatment to enhance the
durability then it is cooled and polished, then it is painted by
powder coating technique for uniform spread further it is tested in

This department playing very important role in the success of company. The
total employees of BOSCH is more than 5700 and in Bangalore plant HR
department is known as BanP/HRL.

It has excellent infrastructure and manufacturing facilities.


Safety is given high importance.
Neat cafeteria and healthy foods are served for the company members.
Effective waste management methods.
All 9 Departments have separate meeting rooms.
Photovoltaic (solar) panels are installed on the terrace of cafeteria.
The entire inventory management is computerized.
The shift timing is divided in such a way that it is easy for the workmen to be punctual.
Discipline is being followed and the work culture is good.
Pollution level is low.
5-S culture is being followed partially.
BPS is under implementation.
Employee satisfaction level is high & grievances are minimum.

SUGGESTIONS
Security systems may be very much improved by using
electronic security devices at all gates.
Cleanliness & orderliness has to be further improved..
Employees are to be trained to use appropriate safety device.
Production process is to be modernized from time to time.
Continuous training inputs are to be given to enhance overall
development of employees.
Career planning is to be made to keep the workforce
motivated.
Replacement of old machines are to be made as per
replacement plans.

Conclusion
BOSCH has grown from being the pioneer of automotive sparkplugs
and diesel fuel injection equipment to become one of the greatest
automotive ancillary industries in India. Their vision to become a
globally competitive company not only in costs, but also in their
entire business. BOSCH expanding business, particularly in exports
and integration of its outlook. Leveraging the Internet for its
business is a strategic focus area. BOSCH regularly updated
company website will definitely enable the customers to access
comprehensive and current information.
