3.1 Drilling of the horizontal boreholes can be
carried out either from the excavation face, an
intermediate shaft or from the other end of the
tunnel to investigate the ground conditions, in
particular to check whether suspected features
of poor ground are present and if so their nature
and extent.

depth and then along a horizontal alignment.

very useful in GI for deep tunnels.
