Assessment
gathering and interpreting evidence about pupils
learning and learners and their teachers using that
evidence to decide where pupils are in their learning,
where they are going and how to take the next steps
(QCA and the Assessment Reform Group, 2001)
Assessment is more comprehensive because it
covers the general process of appraisal;
while evaluation is the process of adducing value
to an outcome of educational accountability.
Assessment for learning is an essential part of the
everyday teaching and learning
Why Evaluate?
Cronbach (1963, p. 675) quite strongly
advocated the use of evaluation for course
improvement. He stated, "The greatest
service evaluation can perform is to
identify aspects of the course where
revision is desirable."
