HAIKU

HAIKU
Is one of the most important
form of Japanese poetry.
Combines form, content, and
language in a meaningful yet
compact form.
Are typically written about
nature, but they can be about
any topic.

HAIKU
Haiku is usually written in the
present tense and uses simple
words and grammar.
Many themes include nature,
feelings, or experiences.
It does not rhyme.

THE BASIC RULE


OF THE HAIKU

SO IN SUMMARY:
A haiku has three (3) lines.
There are five (5) syllables in the
first line,
Seven (7) syllables in the second
line,
And five (5) syllables in the third
line, with a total of 17 (5+7+5)
syllables altogether.

Shakespearean. Both types follow a
similar structure, with the main
variation being a different rhyme
scheme (the pattern of end rhyme).

ELEGY
The elegy originally had a strict
structure dealing with meter. More
specifically, the meter alternated
between 6 foot and 5 foot lines.
Nowadays, elegies don't follow a
specific format, but always have the
same mood.

A Spoken or written account
of connected events; a
story.

A Message that tells the


particulars of an act or
occurrence or course of
events; presented in writing
or drama or cinema or as a
radio or television program

animal characters
Folk Tales - old stories that reveal cultural customs
Fantasy - fiction stories about unrealistic
characters and events that would never happen

Idyll - short poem depicting a peaceful, idealize


country scene and long poems about ancient heroes

Tall Tales - humorous exaggeration stories
focusing on a mythical hero.
Biography - detailed accounts of someone's life
News - information about current events
