NetBackup Tape Backup, Archive and

Restore
We can use NetBackup to perform back ups, archives and restores on a client (UNIX system).
I believe you are restricted to restoring the files to the same machine where the backup was created.
For information about jbpSA command options, see the jbpSA man page.
To start Backup, Archive and Restore, enter the following command
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/jbpSA &
A backup copies items to tape. The original files remain on the source drive. User backups are saved for
one year.
This can be run manually or set up to run automatically on a predefined schedule.
An archive also copies items to tape. When the archive is finished and successful, the original files are
deleted from the source drive. User archives are saved indefinitely.
Backups and archives are done by using the same procedure. The archive option appears within the
backup procedure.
Tapes hold a little over 2.5T each. Tapes cost ~$177 each. To backup 100T to tape would take about 40
tapes, total cost of $7080.00.

To archive files to tape

Click the Backup Files tab.

To select the items you want to back up, in any pane, click the check box to
the left of the item.
Click the Backup button.
In the Backup Files dialog box, select the option to
Archive files (delete files after successful backup)
To associate a keyword phrase to the backup, enter that information in the box
labeled
Keyword phrase to associate with this backup or archive
(optional)
Default log files are saved in
/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/<username>/logs, probably a good idea
to specify a meaningful log file directory and name rather than accepting the
default.
Click Start Backup.

One way to restore from archived backups

Click the Restore Files tab,

In the Restore type drop-down list, select Archived Backups,
Specify the date range for the archive tape by selecting the start and end
dates,
Type in the desired directory under Browse directory,
Click View -> Refresh,
To select the items you want to restore, in any pane, click the check box to the
left of the item,
Click Restore,
Select Restore everything to a different location (maintaining existing
structure),
Type your desired destination directory in the Destination box,
Click Start Restore.

bparchive
Another way to archive files to tape is from a script, possibly having that
script run periodically via a cron. In which case you want to use the
bparchive command.
The bparchive command can be found in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin.
bparchive [-p policy] [-s schedule][-L progress_log[-en]] [-S master_server
[,master_server,...]] [-t policy_type] [-w[hh:mm:ss]] [-k "keyword_phrase"]
-f listfile | filenames
Suggested switches are w and k as follows:
-w [hh:mm:ss]
Causes bparchive to wait for a completion status from the server before it
returns you to the system prompt.
You can optionally specify a wait time in hours, minutes, and seconds. If
the wait time expires before the archive is complete, the command exits
with a timeout status.
-k keyword_phrase
Specifies a keyword phrase to be associated with the image created by this
archive operation. You then can restore the image by specifying the
keyword phrase with the -k option on the bprestore command.
