Fall from heights

Workers who build or install roof trusses.
Cause fractures, sprains, strains, contusions, severe damage
to internal organs and even death.
Control measure :
Assessment of fall hazards should be an integral part of
the site safety planning process

FALL HAZARD STATISTIC

Each year workers die from falls. During the year 2007:
Total deaths from falls: 835
Deaths in construction: 442
More than 50% of deaths from falls are in construction
Approximately 15% of all occupational deaths are falls

Noise
Due to build or install roof trusses, wall and ceiling.
A worker who is repeatedly exposed to noise at 85 decibels
or above without hearing protection is at risk for serious
hearing loss.

Skin contact with

Portland cement
Due to concreting activity
Portland cement contains hexavalent chromium which causes
allergic dermatitis. Prolonged contact with wet cement also
causes skin irritation and burns.

Lifting & Carrying

Due to formwork and concreting activity, wall installing, brick
laying.

Effect - Low back pain (LBP), Work-related lifting and

forceful movements, Whole body vibration, Awkward postures
(bending and twisting), Heavy physical work

Control measure - Determining maximum acceptable weight

limits for lifting and carrying tasks along with suggested
solutions for minimizing the risk of injury from lifting or
carrying.

Vibration
Due to concrete vibration task
Effect - hand-arm vibration syndrome and
carpal tunnel syndrome.
Control measure - Anti-Vibration Gloves,
Reduced Vibration Power Tools

Crane swing radius

Material mechanically lifted , they have
potential to swing and strike workers.
As the load is lifted , the material may
swing, twist or run and catch workers and
hit them.
Windy condition is the special hazard in
this situation.
Control measure Ensure the plants were
supervise and still in good condition.

Ladder work
Used ladder 10 m above ground is usually beyond the
safe reach of ladders.
Lengthy ladders are dangerous to handle.
Ladders are useful for carrying out short-duration, lightweight work within safe reach of the ladder

Only use equipment that is

designed for lifting
personnel.
