To provide for the registration,


protection, rehabilitation,
development and wellbeing of
persons with disabilities, the
establishment of the National
Council for Persons With
Disabilities, and for matters
connected therewith.

Provide the right to access to and the rights to use:Public facilities, amenities, services and
public buildings on equal basis with persons
without disabilities
Public transport, education, information,
communication technology,
Habilitation and rehabilitation,
Health,
Recreation, leisure and culture

Establishment Of National Council for PWDs


Established in August 2008, under Sec 3(1)...
A body to be known as National Council For Persons With
Disabilities shall be established for the purpose of this Act
Chaired by Minister of Women, Family and Community
Development (MWFCD)
Deputy chairman Secretary General of MWFCD
Secretary Director General, Department of Social Welfare
Members Attorney General, Secretary General, Director
General of selected ministries and agencies as well as 10
individuals with experience, knowledge and expertise in the
field of disabilities including PWDs themselves

Functions National Council for PWDs :
Oversee, coordinate, monitor, evaluate and review the
implementation of the Policy and National Plan of Action and
programmes for PWDs
Review existing law and make recommendation for amendment as
well as propose new laws to secure full and effective participation
in society for PWDs
Develop programmes and strategies to educate and raise
awareness, promote positive perception, foster respects for the
rights and dignity of PWDs
Promote employment opportunities and career advance for PWDs

Promote the development of initial and continuing training for


professional and staff working in habilitation and rehabilitation
services.

Persons With Disabilities Act 2008, National


Policy For Persons With Disabilities and
National Plan Of Action For Persons With
Disabilities have put in place elements of
inclusivity for PWDs
National Council For PWDs will now
facilitate, monitor, evaluate and oversee the
implementation of the programmes, activities
and issues pertaining PWDs through
collaborative effort and multi sectoral
synergy
