TIME MONITORING

SYSTEM
using
FINGERPRINT BIOMETRICS

Sandy B. Ramones

Time monitoring has now been automated

with the latest trend, the Biometrics technology.
One of the most common methods of biometric
technology
is
Fingerprint
Identification.
Fingerprints offer an infallible means of
personal identification. This highly reliable
method is used wherever additional security
and personal authentication is required. In
addition, this type of identification enhances
new or existing time and attendance systems.
Time Monitoring System using Fingerprint
Biometrics (TMS-FB) is a computer-based time
record system designed to comprehensively
automate time activities. Its friendly interface
enables users with limited computer application
knowledge to use the range of features in the
system. As a result, this system is easy to

Statement of the Problem

This study is sought to answer the following
questions:
1. What are the problems encountered in the
present system?
2. How efficient are the methods of the
proposed
system in maintaining the time record of
instructors
and other personnel in the University?
3. How effective is the proposed system in
terms of
security?
4. What are the advantages of the proposed
system?

Summary of Findings
1. Respondents strongly agree that buddy
punching can lead to a form of time theft
with a weighted mean of 4.2. Furthermore,
majority of the respondents agree that the
present time monitoring system is really a
problem with a weighted mean of 3.96.
2. As to the efficiency of the proposed system,
most of the respondents strongly agree that
through biometrics, the human resource
personnel find it easier to monitor the log of
the employees with a weighted mean of
4.28. Meanwhile, items no. 2 to 5 were
interpreted as Agree with weighted mean
of 3.97, 4.00, 3.88 and 3.73 respectively.

3. With regard to the security of the proposed

system, item no.1 got the highest weighted
mean of 4.31 which states that fingerprints are
used to authenticate a persons identity.
Furthermore, the rest of the items were
interpreted as Agree.
4. Respondents perceived that fingerprint
biometrics eliminates the manipulation of logs
with a frequency of 131 and ranked as no.1.
Item no.3 which states that fingerprint
biometrics has no passwords for the employees
to remember or reset got the lowest frequency
of 86.

Conclusion
Based on the summary of findings, the
following conclusions were drawn:
1. Majority of the respondents agree that
there is a problem on the present time
monitoring system (bundy clock).
2.
Majority of the respondents agree that
the
proposed system is efficient.
3. Majority of the respondents agree that the
proposed system is secured.
4. Respondents strongly believe that the
proposed
system is advantageous as it eliminates
the

Recommendations:
1. The proposed system can be used by the
Isabela State University since it was proven
to be efficient and secured for log in/out
purposes.
2. The proposed system is recommended to
provide an automatic calculated report on
tardiness and absences
