POLICY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Established with the Maastricht treaty

Principal objectives of the CFSP

To safeguard the common values, fundamental interests and


independence of the European Union

To strengthen the security of the Union and its member states.

To preserve peace and strengthen international security

To promote international cooperation

COMMON SECURITY AND


DEFENCE POLICY

Before the treaty of Lisbon known as European Security and


Defence Policy:

Humanitarian and rescue tasks

Conflict prevention and peace-keeping tasks

Crisis management around the world

The treaty of Lisbon added three new task to the list:

Joint disarmament operations

Military advice and assistance tasks

Tasks in post-conflict stabilisation

EUROPEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICY

Developed in 2004
Aims to Strengthen Foreign Relations with neighbouring
countries
Improve security and Prosperity for all involved
Based on the values of democracy, rule of law and respect of
human rights

DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION AND HUMANITARIAN AID

Active since the late 50s

COMMON COMMERCIAL POLICY

Finds its roots in the treaty of Rome
