Applications of Control
Engineering In Bio Medical:

In Biomedical Industries Controlled systems have following Applications:

Biomechatronics- is an applied interdisciplinary science aiming

to integrate mechanical elements, electronics and parts of biological

organisms. Biomechatronics includes aspects of biology, mechanics and
electronics. It also encompasses the fields of robotics and neuroscience.
The goal of these experiments is to make devices interact with human
muscle, skeleton, and nervous systems. The end result is the devices will
help with human motor control lost or impaired by trauma, disease or birth
defects.

Bioinstrumentation- is the application of electronics and

measurement techniques to develop devices used in diagnosis and
treatment of disease. Computers are an essential part of bioinstrumentation,
from the microprocessor in a single-purpose instrument used to do a
variety of small tasks to the microcomputer needed to process the large
amount of information in a medical imaging system.

Biomechanics- applies classical mechanics (statics, dynamics, fluids, solids,

thermodynamics, and continuum mechanics) to biological or medical problems. It
includes the study of motion, material deformation, flow within the body and in
devices, and transport of chemical constituents across biological and synthetic
media and membranes. Progress in biomechanics has led to the development of the
artificial heart and heart valves, artificial joint replacements, as well as a better
understanding of the function of the heart and lung, blood vessels and capillaries,
and bone, cartilage, intervertebral discs, ligaments and tendons of the
musculoskeletal systems.

Clinical Engineering-is the application of technology to health care in

hospitals. The clinical engineer is a member of the health care team along with
physicians, nurses and other hospital staff. Clinical engineers are responsible for
developing and maintaining computer databases of medical instrumentation and
equipment records and for the purchase and use of sophisticated medical
instruments. They may also work with physicians to adapt instrumentation to the
specific needs of the physician and the hospital. This often involves the interface of
instruments with computer systems and customized software for instrument control
and data acquisition and analysis. Clinical engineers are involved with the
application of the latest technology to health care.

Application Of Control Engineering

in
Robotics:
The advance of robotics and the increase in robot usehave raised the need for
computer simulation of robots, among the aims of which are the design of new
robots, task planning of existing robots, performance evaluationand cycle time
estimation. As the proper mapping of eachand every mining operations need a
special attention inorder to reduce the chances of any kind of accidents, aneffort has
been initiated to carry out this task without humanintervention using the latest
developments in the field of robotics, aided with the domain specific information.
Therelated information would also be tried to be collected andanalyzed for judging
the status of the level of hazard prevailing at any given point of time.

industrial robots have been made a significant contribution toward automating the
manufacturing processes. The efficient use of robots shows productivity increase,

production cost reduction, and product quality improvement

However, most robots currently in use perform simple repetitive jobs, such
as pick-and-place, machine loading and unloading, spry painting and
spot welding. A basic approach has been assumed for the testing of the
performance of the semi-autonomous robot

Application Of Control Engineering

in Manufacturing Industries:

Control Engineering have following Applications in Manufacturing

Industries:

Development of dynamic models of polymer systems (PP, E-PVC), including

chain length distribution and particle size distribution. State estimation and
optimal control of both continuous and batch reactor. Analysis of attainable
performance under LQG control. The work has been supported by Statoil,
Norsk Hydro, and Dow Chemicals.

Development of population balance model of particle size distribution in the

Elkem Silgrain process. Estimation of parameters to fit the model to
experimental data. Design of a passivity based control strategy for the system.
Development of process simulator using MATLAB. The work has been
supported by NFR and Elkem.

Applications of Controlled Systems

In Artificial Neutral Networks:

Artificial neural networks is the single most successful technology in the

last two decades which has been widely used in a large variety of
applications

applications in materials science and industry such as material

identification, and estimation of material property and state, food industry
such as meat, electric and power industry such as batteries and power
systems, mechanical engineering such as engines and machines, and
control and robotic engineering such as system control and identification

Inventory control is another important phase of production

management. Inventories include raw materials, component parts, work in
process, finished goods, packing and packaging materials, and general
supplies. Although the effective use of financial resources is generally
regarded as beyond the responsibility of production
