* Familiarizes the reader with the depth,
breadth and scope of research topic
* Define key concepts
* Establishes the body of knowledge that
research will contribute to

 Not just :
Simply describe or summarize the literature
in the field
But :
- Active process of construction
- Providing rationale for selected articles,
drawing points of comparison or conflict
between text
- Critical commentary on the selected
literature

Based on titles and abstract---give scope of

priority
Screen first before download or make a
hard copy
Focussed on : the most important, the key
theories, the most accessible
Differentiate between textbooks, research
articles and books, books written for non
academic audience
And then retrieve only the most important
and relevant text

Review
Read summarize criticize
analyze
Organize the finding : matrix table
Differentiate quotingand
paraphrasing
Directly record the text identify and
page number

Write
Introduction :
- What is covered
- How is organized
- What is outside of the scope

Body of literature :
Key concept :
- Discussed and evaluated
- Summarize and related to the research project

Conclusion :
- From each section summaries, highlight the most relevant point
