INTRODUCTION
What is the tertiary sector?

The tertiary sector of the economy (also known as the service sector or the service

industry) is one of the three economic sectors, the others being the secondary
sector(the same as manufacturing) and the primary sector (agriculture, fishing and
extraction such as mining).

Its also called the service sector.

This sector doesn't provide us with material goodsIt includes activities which provide
services such as educational, health, financial, trade, transport. We can mainly find in cities.
In Spain 65% people work in the tertiary sector. This is more than any other sector
because it makes more money

CHARACTERISTICS
THE THREE SECTORS.
1

Primary production: this involves acquiring raw materials. For example,

metals and coal have to be mined, oil drilled from the ground, rubber tapped
from trees, foodstuffs farmed and fish trawled. This is sometimes known as
extractive production.
Secondary production: this is the manufacturing and assembly process. It
involves converting raw materials into components, for example, making
plastics from oil. It also involves assembling the product, eg building houses,
bridges and roads.
Tertiary production: this refers to the commercial services that support the
production and distribution process, eg insurance, transport, advertising,
warehousing and other services such as teaching and health care
The basic characteristics of this sector is the produce of service instead of
end products. Services(also know as intangible goods) include attention,
advice, access, experience and discussion.

USES OF THE
TERTIARY SECTOR

Industry is the biggest activity withing the secondary sector. It

transforms raw materials into finished products. For direct consuption, or
semi-finished products, wich are used as materials in other industrial
processes.
Raw materials: natural products that insdutry transform into finished
product.

Energy source: natural resources that

provide the power necessary to drive
machine and carry out the process of
industrial transformation.
The production factors: workers or
workforce, the capital and the
technology.
Mining: process of locating, extracting
and refinins the rocks and minerals
that are in the ground.

CONSEQUENCES
Positive effects of
tourism
Tourism creates a lot of direct
employment in hotels etc. and
indirect employment in
various services provided for
tourists, in the transport industry
and the food industry
Tourism is an important
contribution to many national
economies. In the case of Spain,
20% of export earnings come
from tourism.

Tourists demand high standards.

To cater for these, governments
have to improve roads,
telephones and other facilities for
tourists

Negative effects of
tourism

Tourist facilities are often built in

a way that can damage the
environment

Large groups of tourists can

sometimes lead to crime and
disturbance for the local
population
Because tourists are prepared to
spend a lot of money, prices in
tourist areas may seem very high
for local people who not involved
in the industry.

CONCLUSION
Major reasons for the rapid growth in tourism:

People increasingly have longer holidays from their jobs

In the developed world, people are now paid more and have more disposable income for
holidays

Air travel has become a lot cheaper

The stress involved in modern urban living make many people feel it is almost essential
for them to get away on holiday regularly

There are a huge variety of destinations now available to the modern tourist. The sun
holiday, for example to Mediterranean resorts, is particularly popular. Other attractions
include major cities, ski resorts and areas of noted scenery.

Consistently good weather you can usually rely on the sunshine

Most tourists come from Northern Europe where the weather is not so attractive
Apartments and hotels are readily available in all the Spanish resorts
It is easy for tourists to get to Spain - the road network is well developed and all the major
resorts are well serviced by air transport.

Tourism in Spain:

CONCLUSION
The tertiary sector use in everyday life:
Yes we use very often the tertiary sector, because all the
services you need are the tertiary sector and it depends on
what is provided by the state by a private company.

The tertiary sector in our lives

the tertiary sector helps us in many aspects of life because we use
public transport for example to go to other places. We need to have
basic knowledge that is provided by the state or by example without
many private companies we complicate long life
