Before IR:

Go to CCO for resume and interview prep


Send resume to family members or friends in industry
Upload resume to CCO website
Apply through companies beforehand
Practice your Elevator Pitch (name, year, major, what you are
looking for, interests related to the company)
Pick up IR book
Look through the ENTIRE list
Look up Company Information (find out what they do; know
how to pronounce company name)
Attend SWE and IR Prep Nights
Prep questions to ask companies
Print off additional resumes
Get a name tag from the Student Tent

Dress Code

IR: Business Casual

Ladies Dont wear high heels if you are not comfortable you will be walking outside
and on grass
Guys: Avoid suit; Button-down shirt and tie is appropriate

Personal Interviews: Business Professional

Attend Company Seminars on Monday, September 16


Get a name tag from the Student Tent
Look at smaller companies might be more apt to hire freshman
If a company has no line go talk with them
Dont get discouraged
Good practice
Put forth good, positive effort companies will remember

IR Prep Night
Date: September 9
Co-Rec at 6 pm
Representatives from the CCO will be there to look at resumes & give
feedback. They will have a presentation on professional tips. There will also
be smaller local companies and representatives (ex. Starbucks, Subway,
etc.) that will act as a practice career fair in which students can practice
their elevator pitches and the representatives can give feedback and
constructive criticism. Free pizza and t-shirts!

Resume Dos
Make certain your resume is well spaced and visually
attractive.
Make your resume concise, one page for undergraduates.
Reverse chronological order most recent first
Use action words and sentence fragments to describe your
experiences. Quantify your experiences wherever possible.
Be consistent in your use of dates, numbers, abbreviations,
etc.
Check and recheck your resume for errors; have someone
else critique your resume.
Select quality bond, white, ivory, cream, beige, buff, or light
gray paper for your final copies.
Use a letter-quality or laser printer and black type.
Fold and mail your resume in a matching envelope or mail it
flat in a 9 x 12 white or manila envelope.

Resume Donts

Write lengthy prose.


Use multiple fonts or other visual elements.
Use personal pronouns (I, we, my).
Include a photograph or mention personal data (e.g., height,
weight, health, age or date of birth, marital status, race,
religion, sex, etc.).
