WHAT IS PLANT LAYOUT

Arrangement of physical facilities in such a manner so as to
have quickest flow of materials at the lowest cost and with
the least amount of handling in processing the product from
the receipt of raw material to the delivery of final product.

TYPES OF LAYOUT

Process Layout
Product Layout
Cellular Layout
Hybrid Layout
Fixed Position Layout

SMARTPLANT ENTERPRISE

ROLTA in partnership with Intergraph Inc, USA has created a

complete enterprise solution for supporting Plant Life Cycle,
Plant Design etc. - SMARTPLANT Enterprise
The enterprise solution is a collection of many software
products, each of which caters to a specialized functionality.
The software provides an end to end solution right from the
starting of the plant to its death.
The software acts as

A repository of documents, designs etc .

Is used to design the layout (new plant or modification of existing ones)
Add features like safety, electrical layout etc.
Add the pipe layout.

Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities

Technique (CRAFT)
Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities
Technique(CRAFT) is a tool that is used to help
improve the existing layout of the facilities. The
facility is improved by swapping two or more
departments to help arrange the facility to an
optimal floor plan.

Inputs of CRAFT
From-To Chart
Cost Matrix
Distance (Determined)
Initial Layout

When will CRAFT be used?

CRAFT is used when the number of

departments is enormous that the manual
computation would be nearly impossible to do.
CRAFT is basically used with process layout
approach, which also known as a functional
layout that usually used in job shops or a batch
production facility

What does CRAFT do?

CRAFT uses a pairwise algorithm result that may not

return the optimal result because the final solution
depends on the initial layout of the plant.
Rather than examining all the possible swaps it
examines the swap of only the adjacent departments
or departments with the same areas.
