2014

Welcome!
We want your time at Schneider Electric
to be informative & enjoyable welcome!
The building has a central lift well
providing lift access to all floors, and
multiple fully-stocked tea & coffee
stations.
After an introduction to Schneider and the
Recloser & Sectionaliser product range,
FAT will be presented in the attached
factory any arranged training will be
presented in one of our purpose-built
training rooms.

Reclosing used to quickly

Overhead Faults
Power restored

For transient (self-clearing)

faults, an auto-reclose
cycle can clear the fault
and restore power quickly
and without manual
intervention.
For permanent faults, the
auto-reclose cycle can
lock-out the faulted line.
Where sectionalisers are
also used in conjunction
with upstream reclosers,
the faulted section can be
isolated, and power
restored to unfaulted
upstream sections of the
network.

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)

SF6 is an inorganic, colorless, odorless, non-toxic and nonflammable man-made gas with excellent insulating and arcquenching properties used in Schneider Electrics N-Series ACR
(insulation only) and also the RL-Series LBS (insulation & puffertype arc quenching).
SF6 has 2.5 times the dielectric strength of air, increasing up to
10 times under pressure, and is not hazardous in normal use
Schneider Electric products emit negligible SF6 as the gas is
contained in closed systems. An extremely dense gas 5 times
heavier than air - SF6 will pool in enclosed spaces and displace
oxygen although it can be breathed without danger, breathing
ONLY SF6 will eventually result in death by asphyxiation.
The current version of the Schneider Electric document Field Service Manual
CAPM4, 5 N00-XXX describes the process & equipment for SF6 gas filling. The
document contains a reproduction of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for SF6
gas, as well as the method for calculating the adjustments to the default pressure (NSeries: 35kPa / RL-Series: 105kPa)
30

IP (Ingress Protection) rating explained

IP Rating:
A rating that specifies the strength of the enclosure that houses electronic equipment:
the first digit measures the degree of protection provided against solid object, the
second number measures the degree of protection provided against liquids.

31

WSOS5 software
The Schneider Electric proprietary

Windows Switchgear Operating System 5 (WSOS5) allows you to

configure, access & control all of your Schneider Reclosers &
Sectionalisers.
Manage your whole network remotely via your own communications
links, or use a PC locally via USB, serial or ethernet
Configure protection & communication features, SCADA protocols
(DNP3 / IEC / Modbus), and data measurement
Organise your switchgear into logical groups using the Switchgear
Explorer feature
Trip & Close, view & retrieve Event Log information and much more!

32

Communications Protocols & Ports

The SE-supplied Windows Switchgear Operating System (WSOS5)
software and the ADVC controller support 4 major protocols via 8 ports:
PROTOCOLS
DNP3.balanced (both master and slave can initiate communications)
IEC 60870-5-101/4.can operate as balanced or unbalanced
MODBUS...unbalanced (only master can initiate communications)
MITS.unbalanced
PORTS
10 Base T (Ethernet)..WSOS and SCADA protocols over TCP/IP
RS485.WSOS or SCADA protocol long distance serial or multi-drop
V23.WSOS or SCADA protocol UHF radio communications
USB.local WSOS only
Serial RS232 x 4WSOS or SCADA protocol or IOEX (handshaking on C/D)
