Survey – Why and When?

• Primary data for a research on a


specific purpose
• Applied for all research types:
exploratory, descriptive and causal
Questionnaire
• flexible in what they can measure
• We can classify data in two ways,
Subjective vs. Objective and
Quantitative vs. Qualitative.
Process
1. Review Research topic, questions and
purpose
2. Identify needs for information (What? How
much?)
3. Decide on the best form: questionnaire (mail,
field, online), interview (direct, telephone)
4. Decide on the target respondents:
categories, number
