For assignees that are transferred from a foreign country office of the same
company to Japan on an assignment basis.

For assignees that are hired on a local contract by a company based in Japan

For assignees that are either transferred from home country office on an
assignment basis, hired on a local contract by a local company in Japan, or
are trying to establish a new company in Japan, and are in a management
level positions.

For executive level assignees with highly skilled professional and educational
backgrounds

Technology
Currently not much technology in use except for
the fact that the application forms can be
downloaded from the Immigration Bureaus
website.
All forms need to be filled out in an excel or PDF
file, printed out (2 sides printed not accepted),
physically signed (electronic signatures not
accepted) with originals submitted
Governmental work in Japan is still very
analogue so we currently do not foresee any signs
of changing to online applications

What visas can be done online?


60% of visas can now be applied for online. Most common are:
1. Essential skills work visa
- Applicant must demonstrate experience/qualification.
- Employer must demonstrate no NZers available.
2. Specific purpose work visa
- Intra-company transfers or employees on projects.
- Must explain project and no threat to labour market
3. Work-to-residence work visa
- Employer is accredited/job is on Long Term Skill Shortage List.
- No requirement to who experience/qualifications or labour market
check.

How does the online system work?

Create a RealMe Account.


Agent or employer can submit application on behalf.
More questions online than on the paper forms.
Need a jpeg of passport photograph.
At end of form, pay application fee, in NZD.
Submit passport and completed VAC form to VAC.
Certain countries visas issued electronically (evisas) so no need to submit passports.

What are the restrictions? The future?


1. Cannot apply online if bringing family.
2. Cannot submit partnership application online.
3. May not be able to apply if have an adverse immigration
history.
4. INZ developing an online Employer Supplementary Form.
5. Partnership applications will be online in future. No dates
provided yet.

Malaysia
The Expatriate Services Division (ESD) under the Immigration Department of
Malaysia was established to provide efficient, effective and innovative services for
expatriates and companies to submit expatriate related immigration matters.
Launched in June 2014, the ESD aims to improve the process of obtaining
approval for work permits of expatriates, within five working days.

Employer services:
Creating ESD account and company registration;
Submit Expatriate applications online;
MYXpats Centre
The Malaysia Expatriate Talent Service Centre (MYXpats Centre) processes and
issues all Employment Pass and related documents for expatriates wanting to work
in Malaysia;
Once a company is registered and approved by the ESD system, it can submit
applications for the Employment Pass and related-passes;
Once the application for an Expatriate Pass has been submitted, MYXpats Centre
will evaluate expatriates for their suitability for jobs. The approval process will take
five working days, as per the Client Charter of the ESD.
