Analytics can be applied

1. Predictive Analytics to Replacing Routine

Maintenance
. In JSPL, Angul Coal Gasification Plant, we have huge 4560 TR of
refrigeration Compressor in the Rectisol unit (Synthetic Gas
purification) to enable the gas purification process at -40 deg
C.
. Gas flow rate is 225000 Nm3/hr @ inlet temp of 25 deg, this
needs to be cooled to -40 deg C for removing various other
elements. To support this massive refrigeration compressor is
installed and commissioned which costed INR 155 crores.
. In case if this compressor is down for a single min, it results in
4 hours of delay in process of CGP as well as entire 2.0MTPA
integrated steel complex, leading to substantial cost and
losses to the organization.
. Hence machine operating condition is monitored online with
help of over 345 sensors and data is used in building
algorithm/DCS interlocks for fail safe operation, predictive
maintenance replacing the previous routine maintenance.

2. Supply Chain Visibility

Retailers (or Indian Railways ) can use big

data analytics to provide the customers
with the information on availability, status
and location of their orders (or trains and
berths )
3. Customer Management

Increase revenue with improved customer

relationships
Due to many competitors and substitutes in
the market, building customer loyalty is one

4. Business Risk Management:

Mitigate losses in customer and commercial

account:

Protecting the business from fraudulent

activity and managing credit risk at the
same time is a challenge for many
organizations. Especially in todays volatile
economy, business risk management is
essential to limiting profit loss. Data
Analytics provides the solutions to how
one can manage risks without disrupting
normal business processes. Data analytics
helps in prevent fraudulent transactions

5. Fraud Management

Stay ahead of fraud trends and protect the

customers
Fraud management can help organizations
be proactive rather than reactive, while
also helping identify which risks can lead
to opportunities and which can lead to
potential pitfalls. It is critical to effectively
evaluate potential instances of fraud that
could impact the organizations ethics and
compliance standards, business practice
requirements, and financial reporting
integrity. Data Analytics helps in fraud

6. Understanding Product Lifecycle with Big Data

How long is the shelf life of your product?

Analyzing the Internet of Things (IOT) can
help the company find out. The business
can even figure out how long consumers
will clamor for its product before they
launch it.
7. Location: Making Better Use of Geographical
data

Retailers
are
heavily
dependent
on
locational data to ensure that theyre
placing
storesclose
to
the
target
customers theyre trying to reach.

8. Solving Problems with Data Visualization

Its an age-old problem in business. A mishap occurs, like a
flawed batch of products that are produced due to an as-yetunknown manufacturing glitch
Downtime to analyze and fix the malfunction could take
hours or days, depending on the severity of the problem and
whether defective manufacturing parts have to be ordered,
shipped, and installed. Data visualization capabilities can
strengthen decision making by enabling operational and
business leaders to quickly identify the nature of a sudden
problem, as well as the factors that are contributing to it.
9. Building Intelligence into Manufacturing with Data Analytics
Many manufacturers have invested heavily in information
technology systems to make decisions and execute plant
operations. But these same firms often find that theyre
missing key pieces of information needed to detect problems
before they negatively affect operations.

10. Data Analysis: Shining a Light on New Business

Opportunities
One of the greatest benefits that companies gain
from data analysis is the ability to spot new
business opportunities and market trends that
they may have otherwise missed
In the energy industry, companies such as EnerNoc
and Energy Points aredrawing on analyticsto
deliver new business services to commercial and
residential energy customers such as the
monitoring of energy meters and weather patterns
to help customers conserve energy and save
money.
