To study the online trading platform adopted by Sharekhan ltd.


and its various facilities.
To understand the stock exchanges, their functions, regulatory
bodies and the trading system in India.
To understand the awareness of general public about the stock
market and online trading through questionnaire.

INDIAN FINANCIAL
SECTOR
Financial markets of any country are very important and
helpful in providing proper liquidity and smooth functioning
of economy.
The financial markets match the demands of investment with
the supply of capital from various sources.
The financial system is possibly the most important
institutional and functional vehicle for economic
transformation.

According to institutional classification, it is divided as:


Organized financial market (banks, other financial and
investment institutions and a range of financial instruments)
Non- organized financial market (indigenous bankers,
moneylenders, individual professional and non-professionals)

STOCK EXCHANGE
Stock exchange means any body or individuals whether
incorporated or not, constituted for the purpose of assisting,
regulating or controlling the business of buying, selling or
dealing in securities.
Currently in India there are 24 stock exchanges, out of which
NSE and BSE are the primary stock exchanges.
All the stock exchanges are controlled and regulated by the
guidelines issued by Securities and Exchange Board of India
(SEBI).

Online trading is a service offered on the internet for purchase
and sale of shares.
In online trading, you will access a stockbrokers website and
place orders through the brokers internet based trading
engine. These orders are routed to the stock exchange without
manual intervention and executed thereon in a matter of a few
seconds.

Online trading started in India on 1st April 2000 with 79


members seeking permission for online trading.
Through online trading three fundamental objectives of
securities regulation can be easily achieved, these are:
Investor protection
Creation of a fair and efficient market, and
Reduction of the systematic risks.

TRADE TIMINGS

Trading timings are from 9:55 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. on all 5 days
of the trading period. Monday to Friday is the trading period
in all the stock exchanges. SEBI has stipulated that all the
stock exchanges in India must have same trading period.
