Democracy- a system of government where all the eligible
members of a state, typically elect representatives. (define in
your own words in the hook)
Revolution- A change in political organization and the overthrow
of one government or ruler and the substitution of another.
Important countries involved in the development of democracy are:
England, France, and America
During the 1600s and 1700s.
The foundation of democracy has a global impact.

Who fought in it?
Where was the English Civil War?
Why is parliament important? What do they represent?
Why did they kill King Charles I?
Why did life really suck under Cromwell?
Why did they love King Charles II?
Why were things like Habeas Corpus so important to people?
Why would people support a constitutional monarchy more than an
absolute monarchy?
What lesson do you think people learned from the English Civil War?

When was the American Revolution?


Who were the American Colonists rebelling against?
Where did the war take place?
Why did the British want the Colonists to start paying taxes?
The colonists argued No Taxation without Representation. What does that mean?
The revolutionary fighters encouraged the people to Join or Die. What does that
mean?
According to the Colonists, they were justified to rebel because the king did not
protect their natural rights of life, liberty, and property. Which Enlightenment
thinker would support their claim?

After signing the Declaration of Independence the United States officially became a
