Summary of RTS Contract Proposal


Secondary Student Transportation

Four year proposal beginning in 2016-17


Does not include summer school service
Changes in service would require adjustment through renegotiation (locations, times, and number of students
served)
$10.8 million in 2016-17

Savings of $0.6 million / 5 percent from current year


Additional savings of $0.6 million from current year due to fewer
yellow buses

2.5 percent annual increase assumed in contract would


provide stability for planning and budgeting
Most service will use Express routes
Proposal is based on current enrollment and school
configurations, as well as school schedules

School Schedules
RTS would provide transportation via express routes for the
following schools for a 7-hour school day, given start and end
times proposed by RCSD

- Two Plus Two activity passes will be provided each week for students
use during that week generally for sports and other school-related
activities that occur outside the school day
- Allows two rides within two hours

Opportunities for Future Yellow Bus Efficiencies

Yellow bus service (First Student,
Monroe, Durham) reduce costs
by maximizing double routes
(buses that serve two or more
schools) and minimizing single
routes (buses that service only
one school)

Requires school schedules to be
