A Solution for
Making Next Generation Campus Network

The Trend Key Business Drivers

Based on the broadband drivers, Next Generation Networks (NGNs) are becoming
more and more appealing to the Service providers and also to the large campuses
with a township. The trend is asking for:
Convergence of services on a single network
Virtually unlimited bandwidth on demand
Flexibility to create business models
Plug and play for new infrastructure.
Wired- Wireless Combo

Introduction to the Solution

A new solution has emerged into the optical access market place GPON (Gigabit
PON), offering unprecedented high bit rate support while enabling transport of
multiple services, specifically data and TDM, in native formats and at an extremely
high efficiency.

Ability to handle Data, Voice, Cable TV (RF) and IP video through the same wire till
the last mile. This makes this Quadruple Play Network (QPN).

User Access to Quadruple Play services in all areas of the campus, which will
integrate Data, Voice, Cable TV, Video distribution and also Wi-Fi connectivity
through a single network.

Voice Services to enable mix and match solution to provide the services through
analog Phones, IP Phones or Wi Fi enabled handsets.

Strong Operation Administration and Maintenance (OAM&P) capabilities offering end

to end service management. increased QOS and lower operational complexity

PON Technology
A Passive Optical Network (PON) is a Point-to-Multipoint Fiber to the premises
network architecture in which unpowered optical splitters are used to enable a single
optical fiber to serve multiple premises.

Downstream Signals are broadcasted to all premises sharing multiple fibers.

Upstream Signals are combined using time division multiple access (TDMA). The
OLTs provides time slot assignments for upstream communication.

FTTx GPON Technology

GPON is a International Standards Based Protocol ITU-T G.984.x and G.988 specified
protocol developed by FSAN (Full Service Access Network) and interoperability by
Broadband Forum (BBF)

Supports multi-services by design

Efficient bandwidth utilization
Support for asymmetric line rate operation, 2.488 Gbit/s downstream and 1.244 Gbit/s
