Test.
This uniaxial compression test is accepted universally as a general index of
concrete strength.
Cube test
Compressive strength =
Then the mould is removed and specimen is stored in water for further
curing usually the specimens are cured for 28 days
Cylinder test
The
standard cylinder mould of 150 mm diameter and 300 mm height
made of cast iron or steel.( = 2 )
The cylinders are also filled in three layers and well compacted.
For any other height diameter ratio the corresponding correction factor
is required to get the actual strength of the concrete.
Since the concrete is very weak in tension and is not expected to resist tensile
forces from external condition but due to the restrained condition of shrinkage and
temperature effect, tensile stress are developed in concrete.
Methods:
a) Direct tension
It is very difficult to apply uniaxial tension in concrete specimen so it is rearly used

b) flexural test
c) Splitting test

Splitting test
P = applied load
D = diameter of cylinder
L = length of cylinder
Shear test
Shear is the action of two equal and opposite forces applied in planes a
short distance apart
As per the IS code higher the grade and percentage of steel , higher will
be the permissible shear strength of concrete.
Bond strength
The methods we are dealing with are ultrasonic pulse velocity method
and Schmidt hammer test

Remember
Always hold the concrete test hammer in both
hands, perpendicular to the test surface,
before you trigger the impact!
function of the square root of the ratio of its modulus of elasticity E to its density .
V =f()
A pulse of longitudinal vibration is produced by a transducer which is held in
contact with one surface of the concrete under test
when the pulse generated is transmitted into the concrete from the
transducer,it undergoes multiple reflection at the boundaries of the different
materials planes within the concrete, and then a complex system of waves
is developed.
1.compressive
strength (in case of group of 4 non overlapping
consecutive test results)
For M15:
>=+0.825*established standard deviation(rounded off to nearest 0.5
N/mm)
or
>= + 3 N/mm
Whichever is greater
Imp
For M 20 or above
>=+0.825*established standard deviation(rounded off to nearest 0.5
N/mm)
or
>= + 4N/mm
Whichever is greater
2.Flexural strength
When both the following conditions are met , the concrete complies with
the specified flexural strength
The strength determined form any test result is not less than the
specified characteristic strength less 0.3 N/mm2
