Millenium Ecosystem Assesment

Restoration as an ecosystem management

process that integrates ecologi-cal,

socioeconomic, and institutional factors
into comprehensive analysis and action
in order to sustain and enhance the
quality of the ecosystems to meet
current and future needs (UNEP)

Recent

Issues

Impacts of climate change on a number of sectors, for a

REDD plus Scheme

Policy approaches and positive incentives on

issues relating to reducing emissions from
deforestation
and
forest
degradation
in
developing countries; and the role of
conservation, sustainable management of
forests and enhancement of forest carbon
stocks in developing countries.

Keywords:

Deforestation: the removal of a forest or stand

of trees where the land is thereafter converted to
a nonforest use.

Forest Degradation: a reduced supply of goods

and services from the given site and maintains
only limited biological diversity. Such a forest
may have lost its structure, species composition
or productivity normally associated with the
natural forest type expected at that site
(UNEP/CBD)

Indonesia today: Skema Karbon

Nusantara

Measurement

Additionality/A
Carbon sequestration due to forest
coverage at a certain time (tonnes C
per hectare)

Leakage/L
Carbon released due to declining of
forest
coverage

Permanence/P
Carbon sequestration that can be
maintained at a certain time

How to measure?

Monitoring: (A+ L + P)

Reporting: Improvement of
A. L and P

Verification: Certification
by independence
institutions

What can charcoal mine corporates

do?

Allocating some apart of forest concessions to

be a demonstration activities site of REDD+

Restoring
concept

Enhancing green activities through community

development and sustainable utililization of
biodiversity.
