Title of the film: The Dogs
The Dogs is the name of our film and it is
presented in this text. Having the title towards the end of the opening sequence is a typical convention of an action genre. Also the nondiegetic music had corresponded with the title.
Costumes and Props
In terms of costume the Dogs and the Ballers
wear dark clothing as they want to look as incognito as possible also some people in the gang wear masks to cover their identity such as Robert, Billy and Chief. These are generic conventions of an action genre as these two gangs are represented as typical gangs in the majority gang related films. For props we had used typical objects such as guns, money, phone and masks these props allowed us to represent the action genre in our film.
Genre
Our chosen Genre for our opening sequence is
action. This Genre as was chosen as group and we came to this conclusion as we all had an interest in the action genre. Also this genre had easy conventions to follow such as violence and fast paced action. Our opening sequence suggests this genre through the use of intense non-diegetic music which is very typical in the majority of action films.
Setting/Location
We used two locations- a living room which
represented as a safe house and we had also used outside of the house. From researching major films such as inside man and safehouse, both of these locations seemed like generic conventions for an action genre. The living room was perfect due to the location being plain which helped use portray the action genre.
Camerawork& Editing
We used generic camera shots and movements
such as panning and (extreme) close ups as these help to focus on detail and keep the action moving. A lot of close ups were used to show the facial expression of our actors, with the editing we used a variety of different shots and movements as you would see in action films such as tracking and, for editing techniques we had used continuity editing, match on action and eye line match.
Storyline
Our basic narrative is based on some of our favourite
action films such as Inside man and Safe house. In the beginning of the sequence it starts of as the Dogs celebrating the heist and while they celebrate they had been suddenly attacked by a rival gang named the Ballers. It had ended up being a standoff between the two rivals, it had seemed like it was going to be the end of the Dogs as they were cornered but unexpectedly Robert had appeared and started to shower the Ballers with bullets. So Robert had saved his gang and had protected the money that they had stole.
Characters
The Dogs, the protagonist are all presented in the
beginning, Hal and Joe are the mastermind twins who were in charge of the money and Billy and Chief are celebrating the heist with drinks. Robert is outside segregating himself from the group so he could message his daughter. Soon after the audience will see the antagonist the Ballers, their names are unknown to the audience which leaves a sense of mystery.
Special effects
We used special effects to enhance the sense of
the action genre. We had used a green screen to produce bullet holes on the wall during the gun fight between the Dogs and the Ballers.
