Indian Merchants' Chamber

Indian Merchants Chamber, established


on 7 September 1907 inMumbai,[1]is an
organization ofIndia, representing interests
of Indian trade, commerce, and industry. It
was organized originally during the days of
theBritish Rajto promote trade, commerce,
and industry by Indian entrepreneurs.
IMC has played a significant role in
consolidating Indian business interests and
making the Indian economy self-reliant. It
kept pace with and, in its own way, became
part of theIndian struggle for freedom.

Aims of imc
1) to provide quality services to
members engaged in trade,
commerce and industry to enable
them to achieve growth , both
qualitatively and quantitatively.
2) to provide service to the country
as a whole in the area of economic ,
monetary and trade policy so as to
achieve rapid national economic
growth.

Function of Indian merchant chamber


Certificate Of Origin : Indian Merchants Chamber is
one such Chamber of Commerce, authorised by the
Government of India, to issue the Certificate of Origin
(Non Preferential) to Exporters, since 1926.
It has a dedicated Department for issuing the Certificate
of Origin and attestation of export related documents
along with issuing of Visa Recommendation Letters to
the Member of IMC for Commercial visit purpose. Within
one hour exporter can avail the Certificate of Origin
after submitting relevant documents.
For availing the Certificate of Origin (Non Preferential)
from Indian Merchants Chamber, it is mandatory that,
every exporter has to register their Company/Firm with
Indian Merchants Chambe

Arbitration:Indian Merchants' Chamber (IMC)


has been rendering services of institutional
Arbitration since last many years to those who
are desirous or resolving their commercial
disputes expeditiously and economically.
Realizing the acute need for institutional
arbitration with fixed cost and time bound
schedule of proceedings, IMC embarked upon
establishing a comprehensive International
Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre. At
present, this kind of service is provided in
Singapore, Paris and London only and a number
of Indian Businessmen had to travel to these
centres to settle their disputes

Library facility: The Library provides selective and up-todate source materials on major economic, commercial
and other developments in India and abroad. These can
be made available for reference, to the users who need
such information who are not only the members of the
Indian Merchants' Chamber, but also to the business
community, students and the public at large.
Institutional members of the IMC can utilise the library
facilities free of charge. For others, library access is as per
the applicable minimum library charges. In keeping with
the major objective of the library, i.e. to function as a
commercial reference library, it has a collection of books,
journals, newspapers, reports, directories, pamphlets etc.

lines, and has introduced computerization, to help users
to find required information with speed and accurac

Economic Research & Training Foundation: The IMC Economic


Research Training Foundation (IMC-ERTF) is the research wing of the
Indian Merchants Chamber, established in 1959 to promote applied
Economic Research and skill dissemination through various training
programmes.ERTFhas been functioning as a dedicated division of
research for carrying out a range of sponsored studies to guide
public policy, organizing training programmes and panel discussion
on
contemporary
issues
of
the
economy.
With a view to promote holistic development of Trade, Commerce
and Industry,ERTFhas embarked upon a number of unique
research oriented activities concentrating on globalization,
competitiveness, policy analysis and inclusive growth. TheERTFis
constantly playing a proactive role in enlightening the community on
burning issues such as fiscal deficit, depreciation of the Indian
Rupee, inflation, examination of major infrastructure projects,
improving access to education, Scope of Agribusiness, CSR initiative,
measures to combat global warming, corporate governance, SME
sector needs and others. ERTF has also been instrumental in
addressing the growing concerns of energy crisis and environment
matters through promotion of sustainable green initiatives.
