History

Monserrate's hill is one of the most important volcanic formations of the

sheet of Bogota. This place is a important symbol in the city. It belongs
to the Oriental hills.

In 1620, the family Fernandez de Valenzuela began the construction of

the hermitages of the hill, which was known like of The Snow until
middle of the 18th century.

Some years later, Pedro Sols de Valenzuela founded a monastery

dedicated to Santa Maria of Monserrate's Cross and after The way was
done from the monastery up to the hill.

In the top of this hill one finds the sanctuary of the Fallen Master of Monserrate, the
current construction of style neocolonial was finished in 1925 and it exhibits the
height of the Fallen Master of Monserrate, elaborated by Pedro of Lugo and Albarracn
in the 16th century. The service of funicular to promote the hill was inaugurated on
August 18, 1929 at ten o'clock in the morning

If you are believer and catholic person you should go to meet this
sanctuary, because is a symbol in the religin.

You have to eat the great variety of delicious food in this place.

You should arrive to the top of hill walking, is very important for your
health

Places to visit
The Cross
The cross located at the foot of cerro de
Monserrate was built as a symbol and
reminder of the decline of Mr Cado de
Monserrate in the day of prayer "Bogot
prays for peace in Colombia" which was
held on 21 and 22 November 1998.
During the 20th century the image of Lord
Cado de Monserrate descended on two
occasions.

House San Isidro

It is located in a colonial mansion whose
decoration evokes the sleepy, quiet and
loving city of half of the 19th century,
offers visitors a select French menu in a
romantic and friendly atmosphere,
famous for 35 years by his gastronomic
present seasons throughout the year.

House Santaclara
Located at the top of the Hill of
Monserrate with the beautiful
city of Bogot as main
landscape, this restaurant offers
visitors the opportunity to enjoy
a Colombian meal.
It works in a beautiful house built
in 1924 in the village of Usaqun,
and transferred to the Cerro de
Monserrate in 1979.

Church
Monserrate is the symbol par
excellence of the Colombian capital,
not only as natural effigy, but
because of its religious character,
whose shrine, millions of pilgrims
and travellers have visited since its
founding in 1640.
The Church is located 3.152 meters
at sea level and monitors Bogota.
