What is Fire?

CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE
There are three types of fire class ratings
to be aware of:

Combustibles (wood, paper, cloth)

Flammables (gasoline, grease)

Electrical (appliances)

Fuel Classifications
Class A: Wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastics

solids that are not metals.

Class B: Flammable liquidsgasoline, oil,

grease, acetone. Includes flammable gases.


Class C: Electricalenergized electrical

equipment. As long as its plugged in.


Class D: Metalspotassium, sodium,

aluminum, magnesium. Requires Metal-X, foam,


and other special extinguishing agents.

The importance of fire Portable


extinguishers?
Fire extinguishers are placed in the
workplace primarily for life safety, and
secondarily for the protection of property.
They should be used to facilitate and ensure
a safe evacuation. If it can be accomplished
safely, they can also be used to stop a small
fire before it grows into something larger.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION


The required monthly inspection consist of:
Extinguisher is mounted in assigned location
Access is not obstructed and sign is visible
Extinguisher is charged condition
Lock pin is in place and secured
Annual service tag is on fire extinguisher
No physical damage to fire extinguisher

How to use a Portable fire extinguisher.

PASS SYSTEM
The PASS system is a memory method to
assist in the proper use the fire extinguisher
P = PULL

(pull the pin)


A = AIM (aim hose at base of fire)
S = SQUEEZE (squeeze/Press the /Knob
handle)
S = SWEEP (sweep back and fourth)

This will allow you to
squeeze the handle in
order to discharge the
extinguisher

re-lighting.

It is not recommended you stay in the building to call. Call from
a nearby building or a cell phone/ Radio phone
Give as much information as possible to the emergency
dispatcher.
Ensure that all persons are accounted for
at the evacuation point
Note: Each person should know where this area is located.
