SOLUTIONS OF THE
OLDER PEOPLE IN
OUR SOCIETY.
Global Perspective

Introduction
The life of most of the older people
nowadays has become miserable. They face
many problems but it is neglected by the
society and the government. It has become
a great factor in the population of the older
people as it is very less. It can be seen in the
graph below:

The problems of the older people include:

Health problems for e.g. heart diseases,
abdominal perforation, depression etc.
Loneliness
Dependent on their children
Difficulty in walking and doing other
activities.
Boredom
Financial problems.
Deficiency in hearing and vision.

Health Problems

Older people have more disorders and

disabilities than younger people do. Most
of the older people have some kind of
disease such as diabetes which is very
common in them. Besides this, the older
people do not possess energy to walk
properly by their own and indulge in
other activities. Also they have hearing
and vision problems.

Financial problems

Very few of the older people work and

they are not able to get good income.
Most of the older people are dependent
on their children or the pension they get.
Their children often neglect them and do
not support them much.
The pension is not also sufficient because
the older people have more needs
including expensive medicines and
check-ups.

Loneliness and Depression

Most of the older people live alone,

according to a research 18 percent of
seniors live alone, while 43 percent report
feeling lonely on a regular basis. Even if
they live with their family they are given
least attention. Loneliness and several
other issues which lead to depression in
older people. Depression can lead to
their death.

Solutions

Given attention by their relatives and the

community.
Be financially supported by the government.
Neighbors to visit them regularly
Caretakers
Old homes
Old people society in which old people could
interact with other old people.
Give them a pet or a plant so they do not feel
lonely.

Family and relatives

The children of the older people should keep

them in their homes.
They should be given great attention and
importance.
A caretaker or nurse should be appointed in
order to help them fetch things and keep
track of their health.
They should be listened.
Relatives should visit them on weekly basis
and have a good talk with them to make
them happy.

Finance Solutions

Their children should financially support

them the best they can.
Governments can pass different policies
suitable and beneficial for them such as
free income , free health care ,
discounted items etc.
Pension should be increased.

Neighbours

They should visit them regularly.

They should give them food and presents
at times.
They should respect them and greet
them whenever they see them passing
by.

Old homes and Old society

gatherings

If their children cannot support and give

much attention to them they should
consider Old homes only if they agree. In
old homes, they can be provided care
and also they can interact with other old
people.
Old society gatherings are very good
social activity for the elderly. They can
meet and talk with others and do fun
activities.

What can we do?

Whenever we see them we should greet

them and have a nice talk with them.
Ask them if they need any help for e.g.
shopping, getting hospital appointments
or walk their dog etc.
Learn from them.
Do not give them any kind of harm.
