Company Profile
(PRL) Pakistan Refinery Limited is
operating at Korangi, Creek road
Karachi with supporting crude berthing
and storage facility at Keamari. Initially
design capacity of Refinery was to
process 1 Million tons of crude oil
annually, which was expanded to 2.1
Million tons per annum.
The objective of PRL is to identify the
determinants of capital structure in
Refinery and Petroleum industry of
Pakistan.

Brief History of PRL

Pakistan refinery was incorporated in
Pakistan as a public limited company in
May 1960 and is quoted in Karachi and
Lahore stock exchangers. The
construction of company was stared
in1950 and after the completion the
plant came into operation October
1962.
PRL is a hydro-skimming refinery,
located in Karachi, with a capacity of
2.1 million tons.
The Refinery has a capacity of
processing 47000 barrels per day.

Material Resources of PRL

Between 1971 and 2000, energy demand in
Pakistan grew by 6.3 percent per annum. This
includes biomass fuels which accounted for 37
percent of total primary energy supply in
2000. Excluding biomass, demand for modern
fuels grew by 4.6 per cent per annum.
Most of the resources of PRL are accomplished
by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait.
It processes Arabian Light (20 percent),
Iranian Light (60 percent) and local crudes (20
percent).
