The Big Question Why

FTTH
Meet Sad Ghassan

Has No guaranteed
Bandwidth
Speed keeps fluctuating
at peak
Hours day/night
Cannot play online-gaming

Thirsty for more home services

The Demand
Why did we go with FTTH / Why to invest in fiber
*NetFlix : 50Mbps home speed for UHD-Video *Smart home services sensors to mobile
Demand

applications.
*Smart TV-Telepresence

* Smart meters (Water / Electricity) and Machine to Machine

applications.

IOT needs a fixed reliable

And stable Network.

Stable connection,
Wireless cannot satisfy.

OTTs are rising

& we need drivers.

Gigabit Passive Optical

Network
GPON

Feeder Cable
Distribution Cable

* In the GPON network, the OLT is connected to the optical splitter through a single
optical fiber
(Single strand), and the optical splitter is then connected to ONUs.
Three Sections :
OLT :Optical Line Terminal ODN( Feeder, Distribution and Drop Cable )

GPON

Downstream Broadcast Mode

2.5 Gbps

Upstream TDMA Mode

1.25 Gbps

* Downstream P2mP streams are sent and differentiated by the ONU ID.
*Upstream ONU sends packets in the allocated T.S using TDMA , B.W allocated by DBA using TCont.
logical reach relates to limits in the GTC.
Physical reach relates to limits in the PHY 20Km.
*GPON uses AES128 Algorithm

Techniques
Definition

Outside Plant Planning is way you have deployed your passive Distribution Network using a standard
trend to duct the feeder ,
Distribution and your drop cables from the OLT alongside towards the ONU type used.

Techniques used

Micro trenching
Mature/Proven technology , Deployed globally , Less disruptive to the
community.
High
fiber counts possible in micro
trenches
. less than traditional
Cost is 50%
methods.
Suitable for all fiber
applications.
