BRIEF IDEA ABOUT THE PROJECT

The main purpose of the project is to detect brain tumor of a patient at an

early stage using a microcontroller based model. The original image is

processed in MATLAB software using different image enhancement
techniques which is fed to the model to get the final output.
A new algorithm is developed to which one input (MRI of a patient) will

be fed.
A LCD is interfaced with the microcontroller to display the message

regarding the existence of tumor.

2

EXISTING TECHNOLOGY
There are certain techniques available to detect tumor such as Computed

Tomography (CT scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Sometimes the doctors fail to dignose properly from the MRI report and

do further tests which are expensive and time consuming.

So we decided to develop an innovative and cost effective way to dignose

tumor in the early stage.

WORKING
The MRI image of a patient is given as input.
This image is processed through different image enhancement techniques such as:

Gray scale

support vector
machine

image
histogram

hardware
implementation

Based on the coding the image histogram predicts whether tumor is present or not.
This processed image is given to hardware to visualize the resulting message on the

LCD screen.

SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE

Support vector machine is an algorithm which

analyses data and recognizes classes.

It classifies the image by constructing a

hyperplane.

SOFTWARES USED

EAGLE: It is used for hardware design. It is user friendly.

MATLAB : It is used for digital image processing. The algorithm for

different enhancement techniques is developed using this software.

SERIAL COMMUNICATION PORT

The MAX232 is a dual driver/receiver .
The Txs take i/p from microcontrollers transmission

pin and send o/p to RS 232 receiver & in the other

hand the Rxs take i/p from RS 232 serial port and
give serial o/p to microcontrollers receiver.
It operates on a single 5V power supply and operates

upto 120kbits/sec.

14

ADVANTAGE OF THE PROJECT

This project gives the accurate result even if the tumor is in the early

stage.
The doctors dont have to analyse the report as this technique will

directly display the message regarding the existence of tumor.

This technique can be useful to detect other diseases of brain.

15

CONCLUSION
The purpose of this project is to provide a cost effective method to

detect tumor in early stage accurately.

This project also can be used to detect other diseases like cancer.
