Idea from the Selection

Russia affirms World War III possibility if
concerned powers cannot come to an agreement
on how to address conflict in Syria. Further, the
situation will be aggravated when any ground
activities from the Arab and American forces
continues.

Concept of War
War should be understood as anactual,
intentionalandwidespreadarmed
conflict
between political communities.
According to Carl von Clausewitz, war is a
phenomenon
which
occursonlybetween
political communities, defined as those entities
which either are states or intend to become
states (in order to allow for civil war).

Concept of Right or Wrong

The core, and controversial, proposition of just
war theory is that, sometimes, states can have
moral justification for resorting to armed force.
War is sometimes, but of course not all the time,
morally right.
*Justice

According to Michael Walzer, Just war theory includes:

1)jus ad bellum, which concerns the justice of resorting to
war in the first place;
2)jus in bello, which concerns the justice of conduct within
war, after it has begun; and
3)jus post bellum, which concerns the justice of peace
agreements and the termination phase of war.

Mutual Defense Alliances

Over time, Russia made mutual defense agreements that
would pull them into battle. These treaties meant that if one
country was attacked, allied countries were bound to defend
them.

Conflict of Interest
Conflict is neither good nor bad; consider it
without ethical prejudgment; to think of it not as
warfare, but as the appearance of difference,
difference of opinions, of interests. For that is what
conflict means difference.
- Mary Parker Follett

Conflict Resolution
1. Conflict resolution through Integration (i.e.,
identifying and meeting each party's underlying and
often compatible need, as opposed to attempting to
meet the frequently-incompatible expressed desire of
each) often results in a win-win situation.
2. In Mary Parker Follett leadership theory, genuine
power is not "coercive" ("power over") but "coactive"
("power with").
3. True leaders, according to Follett's theory, "create
group power, rather than expressing personal power.

Imperialism
Imperialism is when a country increases
their power and wealth by bringing
additional territories under their control.
According to Michael Walzer, the
increasing competition and desire for
greater empires led to an increase in
confrontation that helped push the world
into war.
*Ethnocentricism

Militarism
In the selection, it was stated that
Russia decided to join the war
against the ISIS. With that, an arms
race had begun. Thus, each countries
involved increase their military
buildup.
According to Silva, the military
establishment began to have a
greater influence on public policy.
This increase in militarism helped
push the countries involved to war.
