What is poverty???

proverty is the state of one who lacks a

certain amount of material possessions or
money.
.Absolute poverty ordestitutionrefers to the
amount of money necessary to meet basic
needs such as food, clothes, etc.
Relative poverty involve economical status,
individual social and cultural needs

There Are Many

Factors Leading
to POVERTY

Vulnerability to
natural disasters.

This is happening in regions of

the world that are already less
wealthy, recurrent or occasional
catastrophic natural disasters
that can pose a significant
obstacle to eradicating poverty.
Ex: flooding in Bangladesh and
draught in Africa

Vulnerability to
natural disasters.

It killed so many people means

that the chances of raising big
finance for recovery effeorts are
going to be pretty slim.

In Aceh, they need 10 years to develop

their region because the ability to raise
finance is linked to the number of
people killed in the natural disaster.

Discrimination and
social inequality

Inequality can widespread poverty by barring

groups with lower social status from accessing
the tools and resources to support
themselves.
A social perspective on development emphasizes the view that
inequality impairs growth and development, including poverty
eradication efforts and that equity itself is instrumental for
economic growth and development.
Income inequality and social divisions could worsen and
become entrenched unless governments in developed
countries act quickly to boost support for the most vulnerable
people in society, according to a new report from the
Organisation of Economic and Social Development (OECD).

Discrimination and
social inequality

Gender discrimination has been a

significant factor in holding many women
and children around the world in poverty

. Any poverty agenda must focus on women

because they are 70 percent of the worlds poor.
2. Women comprise two-thirds of the global illiterate
population and all women face additional hurdles to
their economic and social well-being, including the
pay gap and the fact that women are much more
likely to hold vulnerable jobs.

Discrimination and
social inequality

Lack of education and employment

opportunities
People are poor because they have little
investment in themselves and poor people do
not have the funds for human capital investment
rather than richer people.
. Most of these unemployed and underemployed
workers are the small and marginal farmers and
the landless agricultural laborers

Demographic
factors

Rapid growth of population by the size of

family
Where rapid population growth far outpaces economic
development, countries will have a difficult time
investing in the human capital needed to secure the
well-being of its people and to stimulate further
economic growth. This issue is especially acute for the
least developed countries, many of which are facing a
doubling, or even a tripling of their populations by
2050. -

Demographic
factors

Political instability
Guinea therefore remains one of the poorest nations
in the world, with a per-capita GDP (PPP) estimated at
less than US $1,400 in 2015 because of political
instability and dwindling growth.
Long running political strife and poor governance
have undermined this countrys economy and
standards of living. In 2015, the IMF estimates that
Madagascars per-capita GDP (PPP) is less than
US$1,500, the tenth lowest in the world.
