INTRODUCTION:

Mechatronics
is a synergetic integration of mechanical, electrical, computer
science.
Mechatronics, is composed of mecha from mechanical and the
tronics from electronics
It was first assigned by Mr. Tetsuro Mori, a senior engineer of
the Japanese company Yaskawa, in 1969.

What drives Research in

Mechatronics ?
Need to improve performance
need for increased comfort, safety and security.
Interface of different scaleslarge range (large scale) robot with fine
precision (small scale).
Interface of different fieldsfluids and vibrations in the fluid-dynamic
bearings.
Nano & micro technology in bio-medical instrumentation & research.

MECHATRONICS CURRICULAR:
.Introduction to engineering (eng. math, physics, chemistry, mechanical
systems, eng. drawing, etc.),
.Engineering software; C, Java, Matlab, Labview, VEE, Linux etc.
.Fundamental of mechanical system design and analysis
.Electronic devices, circuits and systems
.Digital systems, computer architecture and computer interface
.Applied control theory
.Robotics (sensors, actuators, control, vision, AI, etc.)
.Instrumentation and measurements
.Signal & image processing
.CAD/CAM, NC and CNC
.Embedded systems, sensors, actuators and software
.Fine mechanical parts, MEMS and nanotechnology
.Integrated mechanical/electrical systems

Input output sensors

FUNDAMENTAL OF SENSORS

Sensors are located strategically at various locations

in the engine. These sensors measure/sense the
present operating conditions of the engine and
pass on the information to ECU for processing.
TYPES OF SENSORS:
1. Temperature
2. Pressure
3. Position
4. Speed
5. Potentiometer

CRANK POSITION SENSOR:

This is now the most common method of determining
engine speed on a modern engine.
It is comprised of a disk mounted on or machined into the
flywheel/front pulley that turns with the
engine.

Area where research is going on

Project: Nano/Bio imaging

Where should future focus be

Conclusion
After having a deep and crystal clear study of Mechatronics,
focusing all its details, we find that it is like a blessing of
science and technology on mankind providing safety,
security, whims and fancies to life.

It is like a sea entangling mechanical,

electrical, electronics and computer science.
