Objectives
To be able to draw a
circuit diagram for a
parallel circuit
To describe how
parallel circuits differ
to series circuits

2.

What happens
when you switch
on switch number
1?
What happens
when you switch
on switch number
2?
What happens
when you switch
them both on?

2.

Downstairs

What happens if you

turn switch 1 on
upstairs?
What happens if you
then walk downstairs
and flick switch 2?
Where and why
would this kind of
parallel circuit be
useful?

Hypothesis
Is the voltage the same across
bulbs in series circuits as
compared to parallel circuits?
Write this out in your books and
then write a prediction as to
what you think the answer
might be.

Voltage

Voltage is a measure of the

difference inelectrical
energybetween two parts of a
circuit. The bigger the difference
in energy, the bigger the voltage.

Build a series circuit with three bulbs, copy it into your

book.
Measure the voltage across the first bulb. Make a
note of the reading in your results table.
Carry on and measure the voltage across the other two
bulbs. Make a not of the reading in your results table.
Build a circuit with 3 bulbs in parallel, copy it
into your book. Measure the voltage across the
first bulb. Make a note of the reading in your
table.
Carry on and measure the voltage across the other two
bulbs. Make a note of the reading in your table.
Once finished, COPY and COMPLETE questions in
your books.

Set your own homework

What homework would you set
yourself on what you have learnt
so far in this topic? How would this
help you to build on what you
have done?
