The Power of
Teaching

teach.

..teach?...or punish?

teach as automatically as we do the other
sentences? (Loman, 2016)

COURSE NEED
The

Child Family Services team works with children and

their families and school employees.

The children involved with the Child Family Services

program have mild to severe behavior problems.
These behavior problems affect the home, school and
other environments of all involved.

What is Functional Behavior

Assessment (FBA)?
It is a pathway to assist staff to determine the environment
when behavior issues will occur
FBA allows personnel to find the function of the inappropriate
behavior.
When the function of the behavior is discovered, an alternative
behavior can be implemented to replace the inappropriate
behavior.
Replacement behaviors can lead to a healthier life.

Why a Behavior Support Plan

(BSP)?

Six critical principles to support our members/ clients:

Develop continuous behavior interventions and supports

Use the collected data to create solutions and make decisions
regarding the member/ client
Adjust the environment to prevent the inappropriate behavior
Teach and reinforce appropriate behavior to the member/
client ad others involved in the members life
Implement BSP with fidelity and accountability of all involved
Continuous monitoring of behavior and progress

COURSE OVERVIEW
The

participants will explore and examine the components required to

complete a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and a Behavior Support
Plan (BSP).

The Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is an analysis of data

collected through multiple observations of inappropriate behavior(s) in a
variety of settings.
Using information from the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), the
Behavior Support Plan (BSP) is created to provide a support system for
the child to be used in all environments.
The Behavior Support Plan (BSP) will create alternatives to inappropriate
behaviors that will lead to a healthier life.

IMPLEMENTATION TIMELINE
The scheduled date will be in September to allow for staff to
schedule the training.
Each training session will be two hours in length.
The training dates will be September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17,

Weekly email reminders will be sent to remind participants to
save the dates.

Each participant will complete a

feedback form.

Evaluation
Plan

I will schedule a small group interview

with the Director of Child Family Services,
Program Assistant and the supervisors
within one week after the completion of
the training.
At four and six weeks after the
completion of the training, I will schedule
a time to observe each participant during
a Functional Behavior Assessment.
After the observation, I will interview
the participant.

Evaluation
Results

observations will lead to possible
revisions and possible implementation of
training throughout the company.
