Construct projects/present collections after every big
unit
Suggest a number of things worth collecting
Value of orderliness, neatness & accuracy of collections
Reserve space for outstanding projects & rare
collections
Preservation & cleaning techniques

F. DISCOVERY APPROACH

Teaching strategy which aims to assist the

student in finding solutions to a
problem/attaining a learning objective through
self-discovery.
Guided discovery the teacher assists the
students minimally in initiating the search for
information.

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

INSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Student gains first-hand experience
Use of all senses
Permanent learning
It develops critical thinking
Joy & pride in discovering

Instructional characteristics & Limitations

6.
7.

1.
2.
3.

Independent search can lead to full blown research

The teacher stays nondirective
LIMITATIONS:
Lack of needed tools may hamper the scientific
procedure
Less capable ones may not be successful despite
guidance
It may lead to trial-and-error unless properly guided

G. CONSTRUCTIVIST APPROACH

Construction of meaning through the

interaction of prior knowledge & new learning
events

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

INSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Provide students w/ relevant experiences from which
they can construct their own meaning
The teacher acts as a facilitator
Learning activities & events rather than fixed
documents
Ceases the traditional learning
Lessons are activity-oriented
live through a learning episode

Suggestions/Recommendations

5.

SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Always find connection with the previous lesson
Inquiry teaching
Reflection
Activities developing the creativity, critical thinking
skills, & innovativeness
Construction & reconstruction of meanings

to actually see, feel, or encounter a certain
situation

1.
2.
3.
4.

INSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Direct & keen observations followed by an analysis of
what has been understood
Children learn best from experiences
Interaction with others
Accumulated experiences are further examined and
evaluated by themselves
The child:
- Should be personally involved in the leaning task

- Must discover the knowledge by himself

6.
7.

2.
3.
4.

The objectives of the learning activity must be clearly

understood
Experiential learning emphasizes what one is studying,
also making conclusions & generalizations
The teacher should lead the students in connecting the
current experience to previous ones
SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Involve the students in planning a learning activity
Allow sufficient time for student reflection
Pay attention to positive feelings in analyzing the

presenting them in a clear way
Develops the ability to communicate in an interesting
manner
An effective way of searching for uncommon
information
The skill & experience gained in presenting a scientific
paper is a valued achievement
Special reports require careful evaluation
Oral reports may be evaluated instantly
