Abstract
The term green computing is the study and practice
of efficient and eco-friendly computing with least
amount of power consumption. It also includes the
implementation of energy efficient Central
Processing unit, servers and peripherals, as well as
reduction of e-waste. This also revolves on spreading
awareness and ensuring people to take necessary step
towards achieving the goals of green computing.
This paper introduces energy efficient techniques of
green computing and their use in future.

What is Green Computing?

Green computing is the term used to denote efficient use of

resources in computing.
It is also known as Green IT.
Green Computing is Where organizations adopt a policy of
ensuring that the setup and operations of Information
Technology produces the minimal carbon footprint.
It is the study and practice of designing, manufacturing,
using, and disposing of computers, servers, and associated
subsystems.
Key issues are energy efficiency in computing and promoting
environment friendly computer technologies.

Literature Review
Mishra Rani, Jain Sonali, Kurmi Nirupama (2015) An
emerging technology: Green Computing stated that the main
goal of green computing is to increase the efficiency of the IT
products during its lifecycle and endorse the recycling of useless
goods and factory waste.
Aggarwal Swati, Garg Monika, Kumar Pramod (2012)
Green Computing is a smart computing-a survey focuses on
smart computing using green computing. The main idea is to
develop energy efficient coding that will save power by getting
software that will make less use of hardware, rather than
continuing to run the same code on hardware that uses less power.

Need For Green Computing

Climate Change - many research shows that Co2 &
other emission are causing global climate and
environmental damage. Preserving the planet is the
main goal because it aims to preserve life.
Savings - green computing help in cost saving over
time. Reduction in energy cost from servers, cooling
and lighting are source of greater saving for
organization.

Reliability of Power- the demand of energy is more

whereas the supply is less. Energy efficient system
helps ensure healthy power system
Computing- coding software's and algorithm needs
huge amount of power. Data centers have run out of
usable power and cooling due to high densities.

Proposed Concept
Virtualization- it is the process of running two or
more logical computer system on one set of physical
hardware. It runs multiple operating system &
multiple application on the same server at the same
time.
Low Power- Hardware-we can use low power
processor , onboard graphics card and passive cooling
system.

Energy Efficient Coding- it involves computational

efficiency so that data is processed quickly. The
programmer need to write software that use less
power.
Recycle & Reuse- computer have toxic chemicals
such as cadmium & selenium in circuit boards,
mercury in LCD screen backlights, etc which are
harmful for the environment & human being. These
components
should
be
recycled
through
manufacturers program such as HP planet partner.
The simplest way to recycle is to upgrade it or donate
it to a school or charity.

Conclusion
Green computing is not about going out and designing
biodegradable packaging for products. It opens a new
window for the new entrepreneur for harvesting with Ewaste material and scrap computers. The features of
green computer of tomorrow will be like:
Efficiency
Manufacturing & material
Recyclability
Self-powering
Service model
