The floor is an important part of

the rooms ambiance and there
are certain factors that one
should consider when choosing a
material.
Since the main purpose of this
area
is social in nature, you want the
floor to evoke a sense of comfort.

It should invite people in besides

maintaining an aesthetic appeal.
It is important to remember the
style and choice of material that
is going to influence the dcor of
the entire room.

HARDWOOD FLOORING
These are 100% natural solid wood
from across the globe
All solid wood floors are factoryfinished and ready to-lay.
Solid hardwood is seasoned well
and comes in thickness (most is
15mm to 18mm).

Some hardwood flooring is

engineered, meaning that instead
of solid hardwood, it is made of
several wood layers with a hardwood
veneer.
Since it is natural wood the product it
will naturally expand and contract
with fluctuations in temperature and
humidity.

The tongue and

groove provided
on all four sides
of each
floorboard
ensures quick,
precise and easy
installation.

Choice is between oiled and

Lacquered finish, the latter is most
common.
The product comes with seven coats
of
Formaldehyde-free acrylic lacquer
It is UV-cured so that the product
does not get dusty or stain or
scratch easily.

Hardwood floors are installed by

clipping and glue system.
This depends on the type of wood
and the width of the planks.
The boards easily lock with each
other horizontally with no gaps.

Excessive moisture can lead to

numerous changes to your floor,
such as cupping, buckling or
cracking.
Therefore, it is highly
recommended that you do not
use water to clean your floors

Solid wood floors have to be nailed

directly to a wood/marine ply
subfloor.
A solid wood floor cannot be
floated.
When ordering as a rule of thumb,
add 7% to 10% for waste and cuts
depending on your skill level and
the layout of the area.

Laminated wooden
flooring
Laminate flooring is a beautiful, low
maintenance, long-lasting flooring.
Laminated wood flooring exploits
the
latest technology to give you the
authentic look and feel of a solid
wood floor without the
maintenance
hassles associated with it.

Although laminate flooring looks

like wood flooring, there is actually
no solid wood used in its
construction.
Laminate floors are made up of
several materials bonded together
under high pressure.
Most laminate flooring consists of
a moisture resistant layer under
a layer of HDF (high density
fiberboard).

This is topped with a high

resolution photographic image of
natural wood.
It is then finished with an
extremely hard, clear coating
made from special resin-coated
cellulose to protect the laminate
flooring.

This construction also makes

laminate flooring more
environment-friendly, as it makes
more efficient use of the wood
fiber.
Laminate flooring is perfect for
anyone wanting a durable floor
for a fraction of the price and
installation time of a hardwood floor.

BAMBOO FLOORING
It is actually a grass but it can
be used like timber.
Bamboo flooring is an extremely
versatile flooring product. It can
be installed in virtually any room
of your home, above or below
ground.

Bamboo flooring is an
environmentally friendly product.
It takes only a few years for a
bamboo plant to grow to maturity,
while
it takes decades for hardwood trees.
And when bamboo is harvested,
the root continues to live
and produces new stock.

Each year one mother plant

generates several new bamboo
stems that grow
to full length in a few months and to
mature hardness in about five years.
Bamboo is actually harder than
hardwood so it makes more durable
flooring.

Bamboo floors are ideal for allergy

sufferers as they do not promote dust
or harbor dust mites.
Bamboo flooring is an inexpensive
alternative to hardwood flooring,
usually costing 25% to 50% less than
hardwood.

ENGINEERED FLOORS
Engineered hardwood flooring is a
product made up of a core of
hardwood, plywood or HDF and a
top layer of hardwood veneer that
is glued on the top surface of the
core and is available in almost
any hardwood species.

The engineered product has

been designed to provide
greater stability, particularly
where moisture or heat pose
problems for solid hardwood
floors...
In addition to the top hardwood
veneer, engineered wood flooring
typically has three or more layers.
.

Generally, there is greater stability

with more layers. The core layers
may be plywood, high density
fiberboard, or hardwood
The hardwood veneer, top layer
hardwood, can typically be
2.0mm to 6.0mm or more in
thickness.
